@Cristi I'm always in favour of your Romanian tracks. But what ever you choose, tell us which poll it is related to.

I only know the band Child was a suggested song for the 60s round and I also think Phoenix - Floarea Stancilor was in that round, too. I don't know the rest, I didn't think it mattered. I posted 4 Romanian songs here, like I said, tough choice. I'll choose two of them really soon.

No worries, my intro was ludicrously long, had I written it more like I did on page two (quite succinct -- friendly -- without being terse), then we actually might have had more participation. I did have iodine coursing through my veins, as I wrote it after having CT scans, but I was overindulgent. I do enjoy writing silly stuff, and I do know better.
I had my reasons for asking for the info, partially as the sharing of that journey in this I thought would add to the fabric of this sort of communal trips down memory lane idea, and I just like to see how it fits, but there's no need to go back and remember which topics you returned to for inspiration. I knew one of them at least had come from the 60s thread. Glad we are doing the two nominations, (good thinking, Mila) due to the, quite possibly, record turn-out (not a record I would have hoped to break). I don't mind less people, but I also don't want to let down the "team". Glad Lorenzo asked me if I wanted to do it then still as I have wanted to do this theme for quite a long time, but worried how well it would work for others and knew it would be quite time-consuming to prepare. @Cristi Post Scriptum and Phoenix are my favourites of yours! The first is dated 1981, so it's related to the "dreadful decade" poll, maybe? Edited by Mila-13 - March 23 2022 at 07:30 |

No, I don't think so, possibly the instrumental round. The song is played live in 1981, I think it's late 70s. Also what happened around 1981, the band was asked to do a pop-rock album, or better said forced to, which they did and it's a rather good album, but the Jazz-rock fusion they were doing earlier was gone. Post-Scriptum band members were in a band called Gramofon, which did not even get a recording contract with the national recording company called Electrecord, just a few National Radio recordings. I have listened to those songs, great jazzy rock sound, which unfortunately does not exist on youtube. |

It's a difficult one, there are too many possibilities. I'll just pick a song I thought about for the previous poll. I had picked this one for the acoustic sessions but I was too late, the voting had already started Edited by Meltdowner - March 23 2022 at 09:26 |

So, I will nominate Nena (of course!) and Kaboom Karavan, but I wouldn't mind to splice in Fay Lovsky's commercial interlude somewhere...

I don't think there are any vinyls with Gramofon. I got some mp3 files with them from a friend, quite a while ago. Lucky me I guess.

So you assume those were tape recordings? Edited by Mila-13 - March 23 2022 at 16:51 |

Possible. In the 70s and 80s, the label Electrecord was releasing these splits/compilations of artists but I don't remember Gramofon being on any of them. National Radio was helping some bands back then so most likely they are radio recordings.

So I plan to put the poll up tomorrow morning, and I have opted to do two from Portishead's Third (I was going to do one Portishead and one Morricone) and this fits the sort of Duos of Contrast poll as two I could have mentioned but unlike the duos poll, I will separate the listings. Portishead's "The Rip" likely these days would have been my the folk music poll choice, or even the Emotional songs (female singer) poll and "Machine Gun" could I think fit the Welcome to the machines! poll due to its electronic character although it would fit a "Welcome to the machine guns" poll better still. I mean they are both electronica, but one is more of an industrial kind of electronica, and the other has folktronica qualities.
Here are my song choices off Portishead's Third: Portishead - Machine Gun Portishead - The Rip if anyone wants to make any changes or still participate there is still some time. It's very open due being able to base your suggestion on so many past polls as well as the different ways you approach this as mentioned in the "criteria" section of the original post. A post that is now 25 percent easier to read. ;) I would have loved to follow this poll, Interactive Poll # -45 (or something), with Portishead (I did Pram) where I could pick out a number of Portishead songs that can equal up to 25 minutes and show the versatility, but I feel that would be a but unfair to others who have not gone that route. Two songs per person is how the rules are now set. EIT: Changed the Machine Gun track, thank Mila, hopefully it now works for all. Edited by Logan - March 24 2022 at 17:00 |
