Your favourite Electronic Prog albums?

On Force Majeure Edgar Froese's guitar playing Improved and he seemed to master improvisation, expanding more, improved his technique...and actually came across more like a Steve Hillage or Andrew Latimer style of playing. He was good before, but on this album it was evident that he took a leap forward.


In 1980 I enjoyed listening to Avant-garde by candlelight. Zeit and Atem were always included . "Nebulous Dawn" seemed to create a vibe of falling darkness. The piece created a feeling of drifting into the supernatural. The piece "Atem" projected in the exact same way. Tangerine Dream created beautiful darkscapes! Around the time of Phadrea , Rubycon the pulsating effect began which was a very rhythmical aspect brought into Electronic Music. Of course other people were already doing that..Mort Garson's rhythmical rapid pulsating synthesizer sound on "Leave The Driving To Us" which Pink Floyd's "On The Run" had a similarity to. There was Terry Riley who created swirly electronics over a pulsating rhythm with organ , Beaver & Krause and Ron Geesin , but TD took the idea and created atmospheric soundscape decorations around it. They were highly influential to other Electronic artists. Stratosphere and Sorcerer took another leap forward. Sorcerer never felt like a soundtrack to me. I love "Overture" from the album Various Artist ( Virgin) and "Haunted Heights" from a Tangerine Dream box set released in 1980. Both pieces are hauntingly affective and from that period.

Peter Baumann recorded a few tracks on Trans Harmonic Nights that Share similarities with "Haunted Heights". This style of Electronic Music influenced the early Neuronium from Spain and in Mexico during the 80s and 90s a quite impressive list of Electronic artists began releasing dark Electronic music which to some degree shared the influence of Tangerine Dream.

My collection tends to be dominated by Tangerine Dream and Vangelis.

A more definitive cross between Electronic sound effects and Electronic pulsating rhythms and Space Rock songs.

"Sword Of The East" should have been on the Chronicles Of The Black Sword studio album.

Hawkwind- It Is The Business Of The Future To Be Dangerous
The first 15 or 20 minutes of the album is Electronic. I'm not fond of the songwriting on this one, but the instrumental Electronic pieces are fun

Not Progressive Rock, unless you consider Popol Vuh to be Progressive Rock but nevertheless this music captures the sound and style of Florian Fricke during his Nosferatu period. Maybe it was not intended to be. The cd was manufactured in West Germany in 1986. That means it's out of print...ok moving rapidly right along..
