There's probably no rule about this but how do you all feel about someone who saves up 10 or more reviews and then posts them all at once? Personally i find it annoying especially when other newer reviews simply get swept away from the front page. Have the admins considered any rules regarding this? There's no reason these reviews can't be posted as they are written.

I find it inconsiderate, discourteous to other reviewers, and have thought that there should be a rule about this. I don't think there is. People work hard on writing reviews, and of course they want those to have some time in the sun, and so it is not tactful for someone to post a bunch of their own reviews (copy-pasted, often from another site or saved up) quickly. And it does seem very spammy. I feel much the same with forums when people posting a whole bunch of topics in quick order, or bump a whole lot and drowning out others new ones and obscuring recent discussion.

I will PM a reviewer later about this to request that the reviews be spaced out so that they don't drown out recent reviews by other reviewers on the front page, and will bring up with admin amending the rules.

EDIT: I wrote and sent a PM. Thanks for bringing this issue up.

It could be worse... Check out the "Last 50 Reviewed Releases" at ProGGnosis. A reviewer named ZapNiles is flooding their page with reviews that were written decades ago! 48 of the 50 reviews on that page are by them. Example: Their Starcastle review was written in 2002 and just now posted. I'm guessing they are copy/pasting from another, perhaps defunct, site. Inconsiderate, indeed!

Normally i don't care about such things but the band Amoeba Split was kind enough to let me review the new album before its release and it was literally bumped off the entire last 50 reviews in less than a 24 hour period. Now that this reviewer is literally wiping out the front page every day, i question if anyone else will bother posting reviews. I've had up to five reviews a day but my protocol is no more than three a day (as a general rule) and wait a day and add more if no new reviews have appeared. I've never knocked out the top 10 on the front page even at my most prolific moments! The one thing i CAN say positive is that at least they are REAL reviews and not just silly rants about nothing.

He didn't see my PM (I had seen him logged in) and so this time I emailed him when I saw how he had totally flooded the reviews again with those copy-paste jobs. Ian and I have talked about it, Keishiro I'm sure will chime in when he he sees the discussion, and we will take strict measures if he does not stop. If it continues I would not be against batch deleting them as I told him. We do favour ones written for this site, and it is unfair on those. and in the time it took me to email him and post this, he posted twenty or more more, pushing another very recent review from a new prog reviewer off the page. My desire would be to batch delete them all now, but will wait to see if my email is responded to fairly quickly. Social review comments might help for the reviews, but I don't have Facebook.

^ yeah why is Facebook necessary for social reviews? Not like that on MMA or JMA. Seems like a standard function of most sites regardless of age.

It strikes me that this chap is blatantly trying to advertise his personal website, from which all of these reviews are taken.

Why don't you suggest to him that he does what I do, namely advertise my website on the forum with regular updates, which the site kindly allows me to do?

Just a thought. If he is not willing to do so, he needs to be stopped. He makes Svetonio look like a slacker....

^ I agree about the advertising. He was quite honest about that in a topic before , which had made me a little worried, and I wish I had said something when I saw his message. "Now I gotta figure out a way to give myself credit, per the review posting guidelines (and my own desire to hopefully see more traffic at my site)."

I think his updates might be rather too frequent and too copious for my tastes. Some restraint is in order, otherwise a restraining order might do. You're a different case, you've earned some site promotion. I've long wanted to make my own site -- music and film maybe. I used to have a little "comedy" site of the Onion variety but not nearly as good. I've visited your site and enjoyed it.

I asked him to limit to two reviews a day and space those if he is to continue posting reviews. He can of course make a topic in Get the Word Out.

I don't know who Zap is. But I did get the date wrong in my previous post (the 2002 post was from someone else). Anyway, all of his 48 posts seem to be written on 24 Mar 2023, which would make him a prolific review writer.

Thanks, Ian! It's good to know someone with seemingly infinite connections in the prog world!

The review currently on the front page of a live Camel DVD is actually a review of the Mirage album.

What utter nonsense you write.

Zap decided he wanted to add his prior reviews to the Proggnosis web site so that many others might see them as the other locations had a lower level of readership.  While these reviews are not newly written, they are new to many of our site visitors - especially since you never know when a person comes across an album for the first time and wants to learn about it.

Zap took hours locating his original reviews - looking up and uploading individually each and every one of his more than 394 reviews to Proggnosis.  They are in fact new reviews to the Proggnosis website. Feedback from our readers has been welcoming and appreciative.  Those of us who work hard to maintain Proggnosis are also grateful.

Proggnosis was formed before ProgArchvies (and it's predecessor proglands).  In fact one of your founders, Rony Lucky was originally a participant in Proggnosis. During the year he worked to form ProgArchives, he continued with Proggnosis and we provided info and csv files for him to use as he and M@x worked on their database.

But for some reason, through the long history of ProgArchives, there has been a ridiculous desire among some to compete with and disparage Proggnosis - while at the same time it is obvious that ProArchvies members use Proggnosis  as reference for content such as performer credits and new releases.  We welcome this - better progressive resources on the web benefit all of the community.  So I really don't get what makes this mentality that writes something like "Inconsiderate Indeed".  ProgArchives is a great site.  But the fragile egos sometimes feel that tearing down others is the best way to boost one's own. So sad.  My suggestion is to stop visiting my site.  Then you will not feel like we were being inconsiderate of you.

For otthers - well, there is a contact me on the website - so if you have questions and would like answers just ask.

There is and has always been room in the Progressive world for multiple sites.

I think the poster was simply referring to the reviewer flooding the site all at once and considered Proggnosis to be suffering the same issue. The "inconsiderate" comment referred to Zap, not your site.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.
