So, about Idmen..... holy crap! I was basking in the beauty of it all last night, and just as i suspected, i feel that it's a titan of '09 right up there with Crack the Skye and Afterglow. I'm kinda bummed that they added vocals over all my fav compositions on their recent EP, (they feel super inappropriate to me) but i'm very proud of them overall. Although i gotta admit that they could be guilty of reusing very similar expressions (atleast regarding some of their metal rhythms) in comparison to SUSAR; but overall i think the album is mega ambitious and beautiful. Atleast, taking textural experimentation into consideration, this album wins for me so far this year. (i can't wait to hear the beauty of this record in lossless quality)

I'd love to hook you up with their old XFM profile that had all the must beautious jams they've released thus far, (please avoid "harry patton" on their myspace, it's probably the most mundane thing they've created thus far) but it mysteriously disappeared recently, so all the decent samples i'm aware of right now are on their last.fm - http://www.last.fm/music/these+monsters... check out "nice day to start a war"; it's a good start, (if you like the sam jackson 5, it should be right up your alley) although "Fleets..." is the best thing i've heard from them. (and one the best things i've heard in my life  Big smile)

I actually liked "Fleets..." so much that i ordered a "mix tape" CD containing compositions from all the bands on their label that it's featured on, (a little issue i had that i posted about a while back ago) and after a little "dispute" proclamation to Paypal the label responded to me with extreme alacrity, (who would have thought?) so i should be receiving the disc sometime in the next few days and i'll manage a way to let you both hear it Smile

The funny thing is that I actually asked for which post-rock/post-metal bands to avoid if I like Pelican but not Isis.

If you don't like Isis then you probably won't be too fond of Ashes Against The Grain. It sounds a lot like a black/folk metal version version of Isis's Panopticon IMO. It has the same drumming style and similar song structures and production.

Thanks for the warning, then! LOL Caveat emptor, after all...

What? I'd never label Isis and Agalloch anywhere near each other. Worlds apart IMO.

In general I don't think Agalloch have much in common with Isis, but those two albums definitely sound very alike to me. I don't think it's a coincidence Panopticon was released just over a year before Ashes was recorded.

Lent0 rocks!

Again, thanks to all the 'posties' over here for all the input.  The influx of all these great new music (to my ears at least) is just overwhelming.

Thumbs Up

If you like Lent0 AND Ufomammut you need to check out their split, titled Supernaturals:Record One.You won't be disappointed.

Need to recommend a few little-known post metal bands to you guys:

Crawl Back In:

Eibon :

Voyager :

Tides From Nebula :

Identified :

There a few great Post Metal bands in the archives that are primarily unknown and forgotten and they really need some exposure:

Humanfly
Seven Nautical Miles
Zozobra
Steak Number Eight
Blackwaves
Tomydeepestego
Blindead
Io
Einna
Mountains Became Machines
In.Ovo

Neurosis have a song Crawl Back In Big smile , buti haven't heard for the band  yet. Tides From Nebula   - Aura is is nice album, Humanfly - II is awesome ,i love it. Seven Nautical Miles - Every Ocean Reversed is such an epic post rock/metal, one of my favourite last year releases; Zozobra - Harmonic Tremors is fine; Blackwaves -  0130 realy good, scarily pricise, instrumental madness,  listening to it right now again and again Big smileBlindead - Autoscopia - Murder In Phazes was average album IMO ; Io - Monolith is stunning indeed. for your other recomendations i have to check out, thanx

I heard Io's Monolith when I evaluated them for inclusion. I must admit it was OK but not very impressive IMO.
