After getting to know more real fanatics in US politics, it's clear Bush, though a neo-con, wasn't really one of the most horrendous ones. But he was surrounded by many of them.

1) Al Qaeda can't put a contract on anybody. That organization is a shadow of its former self and has been so for the last 5 years. 2) Osama, after all, is no Mohammed, which is the guy whose depiction caused the issue of the Danish cartoonist. I'd actually love to have a cartoon with both of them side by side, Osama and his mentor the un-paintable one.

Bush's legacy is that of Cheney, Rove, Ashcroft and Rumsfeld, truly nasty minds. His presidency became more palatable when he moved toward center, including letting the military leadership actually make its own decisions instead of untrained rich fools.
Bush himself probably could have looked many different ways depending on who was surrounding him.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

"blaming Ronald Reagan for the state of the country is kinda like blaming Ronald McDonald when you get a bad cheeseburger."
The same could be said about Bush.

It's high time the U.S. stops funding the majority of the UN budget. The UN is about as useless as tits on a bull.
In other news, kill a terrorist = a drop in gas prices. Line up a few more and I can take out my '98 Cadillac I've had mothballed in the garage for the last six months.

Karl Rove more than any of them. What a puppetmaster he was. Cheney was a different story, he was the "experienced" brains behind Bush and although I didn't exactly agree with everything he said, I did admire his no-nonsense, cut-to-the-chase demeanor. He didn't give a crap about PC, he just said it, and that's it. |

yes and no; it's true the president has little direct impact on the country in general (which is probably what the FFs intended), but it incorrectly assumes that who the President is as an individual is not important. Ronald Regan the person/politician had a huge effect on the mood and direction things took in the 1980s. |

Yeah, I remember he was the "compassionate conservative" and considered a moderate in the party and overall "light". I dont think he was much of a neo con but as its been said..he was surrounded by them. Cheney, Rove, Rummy, Rice. And we know how....uh "open" he was. Pretty hands off ![]() Used to think the same of Powell but I do honestly think he was forced by pressures around him. At the very least I do kind of like him overall. Wow this hasn't gotten far off the OP! But yeah, over time my personal beliefs of Bush changed, and am just glad the neo con experiment is over! And Marktheshark...you are 100% right about that. Sadly, I borderline think Cheney was evil ![]() Edited by JJLehto - May 06 2011 at 20:39 |

People may find this of interest: US/Obama orders targeted assassination of an American citizen in Yemen with a drone bombing and misses, but kills two other people. Not on a battlefield and no due process. How is Obama not a dictator now? Edited by Kestrel - May 07 2011 at 13:49 |

The majority of U.S. presidents either have been or have tried to be. Most likely Obama falls under the second one. Edited by horsewithteeth11 - May 07 2011 at 22:52 |

1) Because this is the USA and it can't happen here. 2) Because dictators are pure evil like those guys in old black and white films from WII. 3) Because dictators speak funny languages and are declared to be dictators by the US. Pick one.

1000000 people hypothesized about his whereabouts based on dubious information, some of them were right by chance. The villa didn't appear very comfortable to me.
