The word Progressive would indicate something that pushes a thing
forward, so whether Tool or their fans like it or not, I'm gonna call
them prog - simply because they DO push things forward.
Now I don't know where you get boring from, you can say they are not your cup of tea, but boring crosses a line for me.
Just so you know, Teleincision is a rumour started by a fan. No one
knows anything about the new album yet apart from that it's been
finished recording. I would estimate a February or March release.
They have two DVD releases of Parabola and Schism coming out in
December. Amazon.com has them for $6.99 - roughly £5.00 a piece. I will
definitely be getting them, they're rumoured to have remixes of the
songs on them and I would love to have the videos in hi quality, not
the really sh*tty quality I have them in now from the internet.
My favourite band. I started to learn guitar two years ago because of
their powerful music. I really don't understand the boring comment, I'm
too much of a Tool-junkie to even contemplate understanding it.

I dont know enough Tool to coment but Andrew Vernon, $7:00 is more like £3-4 than 5
And Mike, I agree with your theory about some bands on this site.

I would challenge anyone who calls Tool boring,to see them live.I saw them whilst touring the Lateralis album and they were the most awe inspiring band I've ever seen and heard.I think the live versions of the Lateralis album were even better.Definately a prog band.Danny Carey has to be considered one of the best drummers around.

I have seen them once on the Undertow tour, twice on the Aenima tour, and twice on the Lateralus tour.Every single time I have seen them they were perfect.I mean FLAWLESS.The best live band I have ever seen, bar none.Every aspect of them live was perfection, performance, the mix and sound, the show..everything.
And I am a huge Danny Carey freak.

Definitely prog.
I'll go against the general consensus here a bit though, and say that I think Ænima is a better album than Lateralus.

I love Aenima but it has some filler that I don't care for, namely Ions and Message to Harry Manback.

I would say Tool could be prog if they wanted to go that way but I wouldn`t consider them as prog so far . All great prog bands need a wicked keyboard player I think thats where Tool fall short. so I would call Tool Alternative Metal and I`d put them in the same genre as say porcupine tree and the mars volta
