mmmmm cute prog responses...how I get so tired of em
![]() Some things that are for sure, Iraq was a war and it was no different from all the others... The grand irony to me was how the War on Terrorism is supposed to be an unconventional war, and against terrorism.... Seems to have been fought a pretty traditional way and against entire countries! Poor wubya, to think he goes to bed every night thinking he was actually doing good for the world. Poor poor fool, no idea of the reality outside his bubble world created for him. "The Iraq War, or the War in Iraq (also referred to as the Occupation of Iraq, the Second Gulf War, or Operation Iraqi Freedom by the United States military), was a conflict that occurred in Iraq from March 20, 2003[41][42] to December 15, 2011."
From Wiki, of course. Written by ignorant people??? On the other hand, I can understand your opinion. Still it was a war, wasn’t it? |

Yeah ignore the "alternative guy/look at me" response.
Why bother with whatever you wanna call it? It just distracts from the wrong that happened. Iraq is certainly no winner in this, while it's good Saddam is no longer around the sudden power vacuum has thrown the country into civil war. Maybe it would've happened anyway, but the whole "installing democracy" thing is just an utter mess. The US has now set Iraq back god knows how long... Edited by JJLehto - December 23 2011 at 15:57 |

It was an invasion and then an occupation, but never a war. It's another joyous gallop in a foreign land led by American neo-conservative foreign policy. It exposed our sh*tty intelligence, destroyed our moral high ground on the world stage (assuming we still had any), bankrupted our nation, gave Muslim extremists another focal point in their homeland to wage an insurgency against an invader. It was a slaughter of brown people with a few thousand white coalition forces down. Now wait a few months until there is a Kurd uprising against the regime there and it further destabilizes. We're holding on so tightly to the hope that it works out in the end, but give it time. It'll be another Syria. And then what will we say? What we do now: "At least Saddam is dead." And how many Middle-Easterners need to die in the invasion, occupation, and destabilization for that not to matter any more?
I'm not sure who the winner is, but we the American people are clear, unequivocal losers for being duped into the nationalist fervor of this occupation, and we should be ashamed to think of this "adventure" as any sort of victory.

If only McCain had been elected, he would have done all the right things and Iraq would be a paradise now.

I get the feeling you are implying a single person on this forum would agree with that. Time to burst bubbles...

Yep
Let me be the first to say here that as bad as Iraq was Iran will be much much worse. Already appear to be fighting a covert war against them and unless the one non-interventionist candidate gets elected I'm fairly certain we'll be at full blown ground war in a few years time.

Well we have been hearing about it for years...luckily he's pulled the Kim Jong il "scare the sh*t out of people" card which kept the want for Iran down here, and the Dems time in power quashed it. They may be ok with all the wars we got but are no neo cons at least.
You're not alone though, a real conservative professor I had (and government guy, he worked 30 years in the CIA and as an attache) and he was strongly opposed to a war in Iran, citing history and conditions and how it'd be a far bigger disaster than Iraq. But hey, who knows. As Colbert said, Iraq, Iran....it's just an "n" difference! |

It's been going for some time now. Iran has just stated that they might block the oil shipments coming through the Strait Of Hormuz if sanctions are widened. The tensions are heating up almost on a daily basis.

The U.S. government has been aggressing on Iran since 1953. Their behavior, as a small country being bullied by a superpower, has been extremely reasonable. It is a damn shame that the media allows our politicians to make a boogeyman out of a man who has absolutely no real power in Iran (Ahmadinejad). |
