I just purchased it online there - I only hope its better than some of their other DVD releases (principally that Inside... docu-farce). I haven't listened to ELP in quite some time, after finding a load of other music to enjoy, but I'm looking forward to re-exploring them through this new release. I always found them better to watch than to listen to (!) and I love old 70s footage of these bands. Indeed, last night I stayed up til 2am watching every PFM snippet I could find - just amazing. Even better after a few glasses of red.
Thanks for the tip-off though . I'm afraid 3Fates that I completely missed your announcement, and had never heard of this DVD before today - perhaps the site should do more to promote such popular releases, maybe in the form of scrolling headlines on the title page or something!! Quite often I dont have time to access all of the different forums and glean every bit of news going. Just a thought Mani, if you're reading this....!
I shall watch Beyond The Beginning with interest and will review it for the site. By the way, I just paid £12 for it.

It is excellent but it is slightly annoying that some of the clips on
the first disc are truncated eg Tarkus in Japan...a full version of
which exists because I have seen it on a bootleg VHS, though possibly
from a different arena.

Seriously, you act like you are 5 years old and just learned your first cuss words and I'm being serious. Your ignorance is worse than that of Black Metal elitists.

Well, I guess us Yanks are going to have to wait 'til Aug. I don't have an all region DVD player, damn it!
Whoever get's it 1st. Put in a full review on it. Especailly on the sound quality. I understand Dick Carruthers who mastered the Zep DVD did this. Is that right?

Well Amazon says mine has been shipped.. so I guess I'll be getting it any day now. Of course, Karney has already gotten it and has been feeding me pictures so I don't get too crazy about not having it yet...

The Cal Jam footage is great especially KE9 3rd Impression. They've done a great job cleaning up the sound and picture quality of just about everything on it.
HOWEVER its worth stressing that this is NOT a concert DVD.There is no complete concert footage.Even the Cal Jam stuff is for the most part heavily edited. Its a collection of videos and live concert performances plus interviews.Apart from the KE9 track I can't see myself playing it that much to be honest. It also doesn't compare favourably with the Led Zep 2 DVD set as it doesn't flow as well.I think this is for die hard ELP fans only.

Well, perhaps its aimed more at part-time fans like myself, because I love it! I especially like the documentary, which I imagine shed no more light on what the real fans already knew, but some of the quotes are hilarious.
Keith on the break-up: "I think we were TOO good. Maybe we should've f**ked up a bit more..."
And the Tarkus debate was brilliant. My respect for Emerson just tripled! I thought Greg was a little conceited, and played to the camera a bit ("...but you know, I love those guys"). Keith was clearly uncomfortable with some of the talk, and had to try hard to maintain a cool head. I loved his shrug of the shoulders about the Lucky Man solo that wasn't so much written down, as a live experiment that they taped. Ultimately they all came across really well, even Greg despite the primadonna business head stuff...
Good insights from the people around them too. As for the ELP in Pictures bits, its everything I hoped for - most of the good bits with alot of the "fans-only" dross cut out. And my girlfriend loves the "I Believe In Father Christmas" video, which she'd never seen before. If I had one complaint, I would like to have seen some of the tracks from Trilogy (it being my favourite album). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont remember a single one, other than in the DVD menus. But all in, a superb buy, and I shall be raking through it for some time yet.
Emerson is a genius.
