spock's beard isn't a great name, IMO. does anyone know why they chose that name?
sometimes the meaning of a name can help to make you like it - i.e. understanding the thought that has gone into the name.

If I recall correctly, it was from a joke about a parallel universe where everything was the same except Spock had a beard.

"Premiata Forneria Marconi" were named after a shop that sold sweets.

To maidenrulez:
The problem aren't DT or Mars Volta, but the fans of those bands.
I Think that Dream Theater is a funny name. And Mars Volta too. Can I think this?
Please don't take fire for a joke, like those posts are.
Ok, Yes is a silly name. Are you happy now?

Some Japanese bands have silly "french names"
- Fromage (means Cheese)
- Gérard (Old french firstname e.g. 'Gérard Depardieu')

Actually I think "Pavlov's Dog" is a good name. Waiting for another band to name themselves "Schrödinger's Cat" now.

I'm with Spectral on 'Spock's Beard' it just doesn't sit with me well at all and interestingly although I just recently got into them that hasn't lessened the blow at all. It's obvious it's about some parallell universe etc etc but it's still awful...
We've all got to admit Genesis is one of the best ever names!

Hey, I think that's a wonderful name, but I always wonder which one of the hundreds of dogs Pavlov, errr, "processed" deserves to be remembered...
Does anybody know where the apparently stupid Blue Öyster Cult name comes from?
