You were at Reading 1983 as well, weren't you?

Oh lord, I heard that show on the radio courtesy of Tommy Vance, I believe. It sounded hilarious! The Born Again album was a monstrosity, a crime against rock music. It undid all the good work I had done at school trying to convince my peers that heavy metal wasn't cliche ridden rubbish. That album scuppered my effort!

I actually like the 'Born Again' album- its a great deal of fun, plus I like preposterous heavy metal! ![](smileys/smiley36.gif)
Though yes, I have heard Gillan doing old Sabbath stuff, and it's simply terrible! Ian Gillan does evil cackles all over 'Black Sabbath'- extremely funny! He also murders 'Children Of The Grave' and 'War Pigs', and goes way overboard on 'Heaven And Hell'.
Still at least Gillan could admit he wasn't right for the job; he once said 'I was the worst singer Sabbath ever had'!
My fave albums are:
1- BLACK SABBATH VOLUME 4
2- PARANOID
3- BLACK SABBATH
4- MASTER OF REALITY
5- SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH
6- HEAVEN AND HELL
7- MOB RULES
8- ETERNAL IDOL (some brilliant songs- check the title track; amazing!)

I've come to some appreciation of Black Sabbath, late in life, as a result of
my kids' interest. Ozzy's vocals are still anemic, but Iommi was brilliant in
ways I didn't appreciate at the time.

Of course it's real Sabbath. Black Sabbath is Tony Iommi, not Ozzy...

As Tony Iommi was the only constant in Sabbath throughout their chequered history, the above statement is true. Whilst the Ozzy material is deservedly the best loved and also the best material, I think the Dio albums are all superb metal albums too, and am surprised at the lack of bad albums in the catalogue- I guess you could argue 'Born Again' was but I love that album personally- though 'Seventh Star' is a bit flat in parts.

I have a copy of Sanctuary Records' remastered Paranoid CD, and I've noticed that the lyrics in the booklet are nowhere near the correct lyrics. ![](smileys/smiley36.gif) Quite funny, and quite ridiculous at the same time. They might as well put the correct lyrics so the customers would get something for their moneys worth. What a shame! Anyone else noticed this?

ozzy years: sabbath bloody sabbath/volume4 and master of reality
dio years: heaven and hell/mob rules
gillan years: the one and only born again (great album, horrible cover)
tony martin years: headless cross and tyr
in my opinion the best 5 albums of black sabbath are:
1) headless cross
2)heaven and hell
3) sabbath bloody sabbath
4)tyr
5) master of reality
AND TONY MARTIN HAS A MUCH GREATER VOICE THAN OZZY

I like their 1st LP and Sabotage. You can also find an exelent movie from their Paris concert of 1970.
