GLASS HAMMER, SALEM HILL, ECHOLYN and Neal Morse-era SPOCK'S BEARD have shown many signs of KANSAS influence. To a lesser degree, but still noticeable, MAGELLAN's first two albums and RELAYER's first three also do.
 
In the metal areas, old QUEENSRYCHE and pre-"V" SYMPHONY X have also shown that sort of  influence.

Why chessy? I don't think they're cheessy at all.
I saw Kansas live last month in Buenos Aires and they were great. I'm not familiar with their 80's stuff, but the albums from Song for America to Point of known return are all amazing, I like Freaks of nature and Somewhere to elsewhere a lot too.

In the end the love you take is equal to the love you made...
