Ah, I'll be beating you to seeing them this tour for I am going to the show on the 22nd in NYC  ..but do tell how they play at that show as well, just to compare if they were having an off night one night.

I have tried more than once but I just can't get into this band.
They're talented for sure, but I guess I just have too many prejudices against metalcore, specifically the vocal style. I'd rather hear death metal growls or black metal style vocals than tuff-guy hardcore / weak melodic lines.
I don't know... just personal issues and I won't say they're bad. At any rate, I'm seeing them in 3 days when they open for Opeth. |

I'd say they were more like one aspect of the future of prog metal, bands like The Pax Cecilia, Grayceon and Mastodon have just as big a claim on that.

I agree,I didn't mean that they are the ONLY band who are doing something different in PM.They are one of the bands that are expanding and broadening the genre.

I will do that.The night before I see BtBaM I am also seeing Dethklok live,I am really excited about that show too.

I like them muchly. Course I'm still a pretty big metalhead, so I don't mind the DM vocals as much as some here. They have so many musical ideas and they seem to want to see them all played out, I expect it's a challenge for them to cover all the bases. It could be a disaster in other hands, yet everything just flows together perfectly.
I have no plans to see them live, as I'm getting a little old to be dragging myself to shows.....

Sorry, but what? I mean, unless you are so old you can't physically go to concerts, that is one of the lamest things I have ever read.
And I love Colors. First Cd by them I have bought. Didn't like it at first because it is so chaotic, but after a couple listens, it is one of my favorite albums. I only wish thier were more soft interludes and more clean vocals. Being pciky with those complaints though.

I live about an hour away from the major concert market in my area, and it's a royal pain in the ass going there in the evening, trying to find parking without getting ripped off, and coming home with my ears buzzing in the middle of the night. Plus I work a regular 8:30-5:00 job, which isn't exactly compatible with concertgoing. It's gotten to be more trouble than it's worth.
In other words, I embrace my lamitude. Got a problem with that?

Never heard them, but their name and general presentation strikes me as sickeningly pretentious.

Saw them last night in Orlando with the Progressive Nation 2008 tour. When they took the stage the first thing that struck me is how young they were.
The break down parts in the prequel to a sequel wasn't nearly as clean as on their album colours. They only had a half hour so it was pretty much just Selkies, Prequel to the sequel, Viridian and White Walls.
Only thing I took away from them was they had some very intense bass lines:)
Now 3 on the other hand just blew me away.

I love them a lot. I had been getting bored with the general state of metal, but BtBaM is one of those bands that have made it exciting for me again. Colors is just a phenomenal album IMO and if they ever come to Melbourne, I'll definitely see them live.

For those who are bitching about the vocals-First check the genre before listening.
If death metal vocals isn't for you, then i think you should just stay away and not complain about it.
Anyways, colors is an awesome album. They are very technical at times. Too bad, theres no prog nation tour in my country :(

I don't mind death metal vocals, but I can't stand the more hardcore/throaty kind of death vocals (especially from the BTBAM guy). His pitch and tone are nails on the chalkboard for me.

 sorry but their name strikes me more as something "core" than anything else, which is what they were when they were starting out...not really pretentious

Who said "-core" bands couldn't have pretentious names?  In fact, those usually have pretentious names... really long ones that are so obviously supposed to sound all poetic, but - well, fail at that.

I think they're very unique. I don't listen to them a whole lot because their vocals get a bit old. I do enjoy them from time to time. I have a feeling they are going to put out some solid material for years to come.
As far as Live, they are exceptional. I was blown away at their skill and energy.

I agree. I saw them the day before in Miami (review in the live lounge) and the ones that really blew me away were THREE. BTBAM lacks stage presence, and the sound was horrible. The music is so much better on record than live... and they look... kind of weird for such an extreme band, not that it matters anyway but when they took thew stage I was ready for some emo really... Great band on record, so-so life.

Yea, the singer does have great stage presence. The other guys are clearly into the music as well, but the songs are so demanding that they can't go too nuts while playing them. Plus, being on a tour where they are playing in theatre-type venues, often with seating front to back, the band can't do their normal thing. They're normally playing smaller venues with the crowd right on the edge of the stage, allowing for more band-crowd interaction and what not.
Also, you can't blame the poor sound on the band. They're not responsible for how the mix is.

You got me wrong. The band lacks stage presence except for the singer. he moves around and commands the crowd, the rest of them are too quiet and the drummer, even though he's VERY good, plays as if he was really trying hard not to make mistakes... especially after seeing THREE where the drummer was soin command of everything.. as I said in my review of the concert, the singer is the only one with presence.. even though he looks so much less metal than he sounds..
