I do think WYWH isn't anywhere near as overrated as DSOTM mind you, and I could have stacked it up against some underrated album from 1974.   I also compared PF and Strawbs because they both were from UK, were fairly vocal oriented, both dabbled in prog - ie- PF was blues prog and Strawbs were folk-prog, and both had some mainstream sensibilities.  Both were very talented musically and lyrically, although Strawbs were much more balanced and less uniformly pessimistic in their view of life, and Dave Cousins lyrics were alot more poetic.  Anyway, just trying to say that it is mor apples to apples than apples to oranges as a comparison.

O.K. , who let this thread get sidetracked by serious discussion . WYWH is not overrated, it is overpraised ! Wink Davide Cousins, on the other hand could use some overpraising. As long as he has nothing to do with Rick Quakeman
P.S. Did'ja ever notice how hard it is to have the last post on ALL active topics. It seems like some people have nothing better to do than write silly inane smart ass remarks .
Anyway, I'm off (not my rocker, but I am a rocker, I'm a roller, I'm a right out of controller; or I was, until my wife asked me if I remembered how to find the doorWink) to bed , perchance to REM.

that's ok. Let me give you a few pointers that I had to learn about the hard way.
1) there is no such thing as an opinion. If you're going to discuss things, present facts, just the facts. Klaatu is the greatest prog band ever. That is a fact. If you read the two previous sentences, you will see written proof. If you need to find out where to find the proof, read the previous line.
2) The groups listed in the top 100, & the various top 20 of each genre are ALL overrated. That point can never be overemphasized.
3) Do not resort to name calling. Instead throw things at your computer screen.
4)Nobody has time to read a short post. Ever. IF you have something to say, words & lots of words will sufficient to identify your post as meaningful.
5)Obscure groups have no other reason for being than for you to feel superior by claiming to love them. Even better when you dismiss other more well known acts as being mere pigmys talent wise as compared to your unknown musical idol.
5)Never, ever, ever make fun of the T. He will get you. (Not really, remember this is all cyber reality, he can't find you)
6)Sarcasm, Irony, Humour are best served with sick twists. Everyone loves a good joke. Electronic communications are popular because people can just not mistalke your assumptions or intentions.
7)Please never never never ask for a definiton of Prog. We just don't have the time to go over that again.
8) People love Peter vs Phil threads.
9) Always listen to more senior members. They have no life & have enough free time on their hands to let you know it.
10) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH muscle cramp. I'm gon

That was just rude to tell him that.  Funny though.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

You see, Dan's problem is he uses the word "overrated" to describe albums that maybe 4 other people he's ever come into contact with even know about, let alone own.

Hasn't this poll been done already?

Anyway, I can't see how the using something could be overrated. The word itself can be, but not using it, as far as I'm concerned.

'Overrated' usually means an album has had commercial success so we usually throw that tag around if we feel like the general public is invading our little world. Wink

To me, overrated = good, but not the piece of genius it is claimed to be.

Example of an overrated album for me : Scenes from a Memory, Dream Theater.
