I remember a German band from the 70s called Atlantis... Their drummer was named "Ringo Funk"... He had some special qualities I remember quite fondly. .

I really, really, really love Grobschnitt. Rockpommel's Land is one of my fav records ever.

"Solar Music" is mind blowing as well

(I'd dare to say, "even better" than Rockpommel's... )

I voted Grobschnitt, but the best album in the 70's German scene, for me, was the only Epidaurus release: an almost unknown band , but beautiful music .

I know only one track of this record. It's really beautiful music - but I prefer Grobschnitt.

How about "Kraan"...I wrote a review about an hour ago. Nobody really mentions them...I think they deserve to be mentioned, I really love their music.
Does anyone of you know them (I guess Phillipe knows them, I KNOw that he knows them because he knows almost EVERYTHING released by a german band in the70' )

if u (for example)take a look at klaus schultzeŽs innovative communications label, uŽll find a load of interesting german prog rock-synthseizer bands.

 it will amaze u

Where are Faust, Kraan & Kraftwerk...?

Anyway, I'm torn between Neu! and Can... I think I'll vote for Can, Kraut Rock at it's best. Tago Mago is beyond comparison

What about Nektar. Yes, I know they are british, but their base was always Germany. Krautrock at it's best if you listen to "A Tab In The Ocean"!!!

Enterely right Zappa123...it's true that numerous bands miss on the list...but well I think I'm gonna vote for Novalis or Amon Duul (despite the fact that I really enjoy listening the music of most part of the bands mentionned above)

Yes where is Kraan. Got introduced to their first 5 albums in the last 18 months ( coincides with following EMI of Germany's release of remastered versions of those records on CD). I was started off by the experts in Krautrock, the Freeman brothers at Ultima Thule in Leicester (http://www.ultimathulerecords.com/)

on Kraan's Live album. This is an outstanding live recording, and in particular  Helmutt Hattler's electric bass playing is magic - when the electric sax isn't taking lead, Hattler takes over and lets the guitarist play rhythm. Really a recording of an early jam jazz band?
