Porcupine Tree's "The Sky Moves Sideways"- 35 minute alternate version is exceptional!

Hey HtR, why didn't you include Spock's Beard's "The Water" in your poll?

ARGH!  I was just listing stuff off the top of my head, and I haven't really listened to much Spock's Beard pre-V at this time so it just didn't occur to me.  I'll be sure to give that a listen today.

...It was kind of a joke. Silly song.

You gave me this home and then you left me alone.......

And I think arguably Morse's worst lyric is on this album:

I am Seņor Velasco, I drink my milk with Tobasco

I disagree. I think the studio version is amazing. Furthermore, there are a couple of problems I have with the live version: first, it isn't really much of a problem, but during "The Darkest of Winters," when everybody has a short solo, they all do something goofy. It was comical, but I love the riffs on the studio version. Second, LaBrie sings a couple of notes off key toward the end (which is realy the only flaw I've ever heard on a live Dream Theater recording).

Tell me you agree that the Live Scenes from New York version is better.

Don't remember!

I do, and I like the studio version better

Love "A Change Of Seasons" but gotta go with "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray", by far Fates Warning's masterpiece.

I really like the solos in The Darkest of Winters. Rudess's is far superior than the one that Sherinian recorded. And I'm not really bothered by one or two of key notes by LaBrie (I mean he's LaBrie, everyone knows he makes mistakes sometimes, but nowadays he sings perfectly).

Haven't gotten into that album yet!  I think it's not too interesting (kinda like a lot of IQ's material) IMO of course.

Ya know, I wouldn't even consider that an epic. With a lot of the atmospherical stuff on that album (as well as Voyage 34, though to a lesser degree), it just doesn't have an epic feel. As far as I can remember, there are no tempo shifts, grand chord progressions, rises and falls, movements and other such things that appear in epics. I just consider it a long, atmospheric experience.  An enjoyable on at that.

As much as I would like to vote for A Change of Seasons, I voted for Garden of Dreams.  Garden of Dreams is just one of the most perfectly composed epics out there and it's equally as poweful split into two parts live.  If the Dream Theater epic was Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, I might have a more difficult choice, but that's 2002.
