We were all on edge wondering who Flossy and Jody were going to vote for. On the other hand, I'm going to predictably vote for Dream Theater. Whoops! That doesn't seem to be an option here.![](smileys/smiley18.gif)
I'm going to cast my vote for Pain of Salvation. Tool's last two works have been nothing short of amazing, but I see a slight increase in quality from earlier works to more recent ones. Pain of Salvation on the other hand has had amazing releases from Entropia to Be. Tool has songs that a listener can easily identify as Tool, but Pain of Salvation on the other hand doesn't have as defined of a style, they seem to have much more variation from album to album. Both of these bands have intelligent concepts in their albums along with innovative composing, but I'm going to give the edge to Pain of Salvation.

I love PoS, but I gotta say Tool, as I've never seen the former live.
When
I saw Tool live for the first time in 1997, Maynard reached out, opened
my skull, removed my brain, screamed at it, and handed it back to me. I
had to walk back to my car after the show carrying it in my hands
looking mighty dazed. I was that blown away. Easily the best live
concert I've ever seen.

P.S.
At the time, I had really not heard much Tool other than the radio
songs and the band opened that night with Third Eye. What a
mindf*&# of an initiation.

I have seen them live quite a few times and it's always like
that.Easily the best band I have ever seen live. And they were perfect
every time I saw them. |
Yup, I've seen 'em numerous times since then and I wholeheartedly agree.
Can't wait for the new s*&%, should be upon us soon.

Question for tool fans out there: I have been wanting to hear this band for a
while now but don't know where to start (I'm not really a prog metal fan with
the exception of dream theater.) I've heard that their beginning albums are
not as well thought out and impressive. Any thoughts on a good intro?
P.S. With the majority of the bands I listen to I like to go chronilogically.
Would this be a mistake buying tool's first album?

Their first release is an ep called Opiate. That and their first studio album,Undertow just isn't quite as complex, and a little more straight forward, compared to the next two releases that followed it.I would start with Aenima and then move on to the brilliant Lateralus album.

Yes but then go back to the other 2. I love the rawness of them and its good to compare
Paul D'amour to Justin Chancellors bass playing.

Oh yes, definitely go back and listen to their earlier work.
I was just recommending their most progressive work.
And I prefer Chancellor's playing to D'amour's.

PoS is good, but Tool is just the all around better band in pretty much every way.

PAIN OF SALVATION. The deciding factor was the vocals. Better vocals in PAin of Salvation.

It's a matter of taste, of course, but all in all this poll is ridiculous.
What about poll "Which band is better?" ABBA or Sex Pistols ???
