Interactive 2024 Thus Far Poll

Thanks for all the responses. I hope to put together a playlist, comment and listen to all ere very long.

Here is my favourite track off the first album I became acquainted with music from (pre-release) where the album was released this year.

It's "Bending Hectic" off The Smile's Wall of Eyes, and to me it is fabulous (too others it might be too wonky in part and Radiohead-y)

I am enjoying the diversity of the suggestions. I listened to it on shuffle play. Strong representation of female vocals. Most of which I had not heard before. The only ones I knew were Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and The Smile.

Thanks all, I have gathered together the suggestions so far[t] in order of participants. I love who we come together in these listening-room type topics. A very positive and worthwhile experience and exploration for me.

By the way, I think we should continue to run this for a week or two before putting up the nominations. If various of us only have one nomination, then I would like to place one track per user in the first section of the poll (and maybe say vote for two depending on how many participate) and then have others as bonuses (maybe vote for two more). While the votes themselves aren't of particular interest to me, I do like to clarify, define and refine the method (otherwise it might seem too much like madness, even if there is method to it).

George, thanks for the Amazon playlist. I am working on one for youtube (not all tracks will be present in the playlist due to some restrictions).

I hope we get some more participants. Mila is sadly absent, but now I see she was having issues with topic notifications and had asked about it. I'll try to solve that. For those who might find participating in the process to be to onerous (mentioning and nominating tracks for this year, listening through the choices then voting) feel free to mention tracks anyway, and I might put those in the bonus section. As is sung, "the more we get together, the happier we'll be." And remember, sharing is caring. :)

I haven't had a chance to fully listen to his new album. Funeral for Justice, but wanted to mention Mdou Moctar since he is playing a show near me on Friday and am thinking about going. I have his previous album. He plays psychedelic rock inspired by Tuareg guitar music. He sings in Tamasheq, a variety of the Tuareg language.

^ It is lovely. She has some very beautiful music across her albums. I first got into her for her album Have You in My Wilderness (2015) and then Aviary (2018). I was once read complaints that she is nothing but a Kate Bush clone, which I thought very unfair and misguided.

I've taken random shuffles of the songs selected and am impressed by the selections and how they work overall. Generally, I like the tracks with the female vocals. My current favorites are Orange Blossom "Mawj" and Solar "Blues". Noth uniquely incorporating global sounds. The Barbara Morgenstern track slowly caught on with me. The underlying instrumentation is wonderful. While I have seen/heard St. Vincent's name a number of times, I don't think I have actually listened to her music that if someone asked me to describe her music, I would not have been able to. I liked her track. Catchy, yet nuanced.

Of the tracks suggested, I was already familiar with SGM and the Smile.

I may comment more later.
