Love a lot of those already mentioned...
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Robin Trower
The Groundhogs
Cream

I'll throw in Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. Saw them about the time this live album came out. I don't think I've ever seen a more savage guitar attack. Ever. Brutal.

Love Triumph! Nobody mentioned them because they're already on my list.
I made a list on RYM to see how many rock music trios i could find.
Everyone has been helping find some missing artists.
I know this probably got obscured as the list went on.
Nothing wrong with mentioning bands over again though.
Definitely some awesome trios that have come and gone.

Great suggests. You also gave me one for my pronk list and two for avant-metal! Clap

Gotta listen to some Schnellertollermeier soon. That's a wild band!

Hendrix and Cream already there. Groundhogs and Mahogany Rush added. Great suggestions.
Trower is a solo artist. Not counting those. Thx

I've seen the top 3 live, Schnellertollermeier and Messthetics twice. Excellent live acts.

Trio of Doom

John McLaughlin on guitar, Jaco Pastorius on bass, and Tony Williams on drums.

Only 1 album, but a monster of an album!

I've seen several postings for The Jimi Hendrix Experience but none for The Band of Gypsys.

The only limitations is that there are three members and each band features electric guitar, bass and drums.

Any other instruments added are fine therefore ELP works because it's three members and all three instruments are covered (doesn't matter who plays how many instruments)

I'm sure i'm missing lots of prog bands on this list so does anybody have any suggestions?

Please do tell!

Thanks :)

Your list is fairly exhaustive, but I have one (for now):

TRI-Offensive was a Japanese instrumental heavy fusion trio (guitar, bass, drums). Their lone self-titled album (2009) is a doozy!
