What do you guys think of roots to branches?I think its the best album they`ve released in years.I think its becoming pretty overlooked, its an album thats much better than its reputation. Its all killer tracks,i would say its close to a five star album |
Personally, when I first listened to it I was overwhelmed because of its lush and partly jazzy arrangements. A new gem in the treasure chest. But with time I noticed I didn't like the production as it sounded rather thin to me. Apart from that I came to the conclusion that the songwriting was probably not the best they could have come up with since most of the tracks were long but a bit repetitive and not as "dramatic" as they could (should?) have been. Yes, it's good from beginning to end but I think I like the "witty" and folk-rock-based Tull albums better as they have an edge to them.
I'd say: musically it's a 4 stars album although it's not one of my favourite Tull recordings.

From the "Rupi's Dance" booklet:
"Funny old waste of trees, most holiday photos..."
Funny old things, superb booklets...
