a new spring for Ian Anderson?
What do you think about the album above mentioned (2000)? and what about his latest solo Rupi's Dance (2003)?

I don't have either album so why am I contributing to your thread?! ![](smileys/smiley5.gif)
I'll take this chance to say that I have got Martin Barre's Exit Stage Left solo album and it's brilliant. Is Martin in the archives?

I think both albums are great. They sound fresh and full of energy (unlike early 90-s Tull albums).
Among these 2 I prefer Rupi's Dance.

It's not prog but very nice.
My fav is the The Secret Language Of Birds too, because there's a good feeling end some great melody.
The two album are acoustic, with flute, guitar, mandolin, all that I like in JT "Songs from the wood" and "Heavy horses" albums.
The third solo album of the same style could be "The christmas album" of JT. ![](smileys/smiley2.gif)

What about Divinities? I never heard this either! But I have heard a live version of "In the Grip of Stronger Stuff" on Living With The Past and it one of the best tracks on the album.

Yep. Both are very good. Personally, I like "Rupi's Dance" a bit better though because it contains more outstanding tracks.
Favourites from The Secret Language of Birds:
* Set-Aside
* Circular Breathing
Favourites from Rupi's Dance:
* Rupi's Dance
* A Raft of Penguins
* Old Black Cat
* and the Tull track Birthday Card at Christmas

I can add only one thing: How thick Ian Anderson's right legg must have become through all this years. Suffering for his art...

Ahhh, sorry. I didn't see your post on the day you wrote it. Well, unfortunately, I haven't listened to "Divinities" yet. Maybe sometime in the future ...
Yeah, and I agree, "Old Black Cat" is a magic track, really beautiful, sad, mysterious and haunting. Just like many other tracks from recent Tull/Anderson recordings it's really as good as anything they composed in their most creative years IMO. The "fire" is still there ...

I was very disappointed with Divinities (lightweight pap), but Secret Language and Rupi's Dance put finally gave IA a pair of credible solo albums. Neither are anything great, IMO, but I do really like about half of each album.

What do you guys think of roots to branches?I think its the best album they`ve released in years.I think its becoming pretty overlooked,its an album thats much better than its reputation.Its all killer tracks,i would say its close to a five star album

I love all music around Ian Anderson.I think i like this ( rock,prog, metal, symphonic...) since i dyscover THICK AS A BRICK album too time ago (thanks to my big brothers) and of course I like SLOB,Rupis dance and the secret language of birds. Even" Walk into light" solo electronic album with Peter vettese collaborator.

Personally, when I first listened to it I was overwhelmed because of its lush and partly jazzy arrangements. A new gem in the treasure chest. But with time I noticed I didn't like the production as it sounded rather thin to me. Apart from that I came to the conclusion that the songwriting was probably not the best they could have come up with since most of the tracks were long but a bit repetitive and not as "dramatic" as they could (should?) have been. Yes, it's good from beginning to end but I think I like the "witty" and folk-rock-based Tull albums better as they have an edge to them.
I'd say: musically it's a 4 stars album although it's not one of my favourite Tull recordings.
