Don't despair Friede. I think that there is a silent majority that reads a great deal of posts without commenting on them, for whatever reasons. But I do feel that your posts are being read.

It can happen to you, it can happen to me, it can happen to everyone eventually.

A simple explanation that applies to me and maybe to most people is that I sometimes log in on my phone and I don't watch videos there.

My impression is that in this forum very often people post what they like but there isn't much discussion or reaction (obviously there is also the odd discussion but that's a different story... it rarely comes out of people posting music). I occasionally listen to music that is posted, mentioned or linked here. Sometimes I leave a response but not always. I hang around in the internet too much and when I post something I later look whether there are responses, so it takes even more time. So I may not always post a reply (how much does it change the world anyway if I post "that's awesome, thanks" - OK I see it's nice, and occasionally I do it).

I have been ignored often but not more than other people. It's just how things are here. Gotta live with it.

By the way I know Barbare Dennerlein is an awesome musician, but her style of jazz is just not my cup of tea.

I own 4 Barbara Dennerlein albums (Junkanoo is my favourite) but I certainly don't think those who don't share our enthusiasm are 'musical morons'. Once you start conflating your opinion with fact it's probably best to call in the mental health professionals. Why does your significant other's opinion not count? (do you require validation from third parties to justify your aesthetic values?)

I'm assuming that's his comment on why some of your posts get ignored?

Aaaah, I sometimes feel like the Olympic gold medal for ridiculously short threads started (meaning threads not reaching a secind page).CryLOL
Sooooo, I limit myself as to the number of threads I open. Embarrassed

You think everyone should find this totally awesome, but for some reason no-one seems to share your excitement and you feel really... well, what exactly? Frustrated? Angry? Disappointed? Stupid? Whatever it is, it certainly happens to me occasionally.

If this happens to you too, how do you deal with it? Do you sulk? Do you just shrug it off? What is your reaction?

yeah, it's happened a few times, especially when posting music  (usually obscure)... Ouch
I'm often bewildered when no feedback happens, but often enough; I'm partly consoled by seeing the number of views my opening post has been viewed/opened. Then I know that at least it's not personal (like no-one cares for what I write), but probably because no-one was able to make something out of what I posted ; then once once an answer comes in, someone can bounce from that one, etc... And TBH, I've never taken a look at these post appreciation or thank you (I Like on FB) that M@X installed some 8 to 10 years ago.

For about a month, I've been taking care of the  weekly Featured Album on PE, and I can tell you I didn't like the amount of reactions to Parzival's Legend album. Ouch
I've even had one one-post thread that turned into a 120 pager (non-music forum) some 6 to 8 years down the line - somehow I felt like a groundbreaking precursor. Big smileLOL

I would be interested in that but I do most of my PA surfing at work and I can't play YouTube videos because our machines don't have the memory to play them (and it wouldn't go down too well in the office).

You also have to give some time for people to react... Though the forum is not nearly as populated as it once was and also see at what time you posted it (11AM sounds fine) to get some quick answers.

=====================

Dennerlein's name was vaguely familiar to me and 30 seconds of the kive video proved to me that wgatever I thought was correct... And I'm not into straight(forward) or dixieland jazz...  Not into Bop or Swing either, BTW.

If I'm to point out Muriel Grossmann on PA , I wouldn't expect much feedback either (at least less so than on the jazz section of music forums I partake into). This is more of my type of jazz (Modal - or Spiritual in a recent revisionism), BTW.

Would YOU have reacted, Friede?Smile Would have even opened my thread at all?

I checked out that video but the music didn't excite me. If that makes me a "musical moron", so be it. The reasoning for even positing such a "moronic" question (or question of idiocy I should say) which I infer from your post does not seem sound to me -- nor charitably expressed. I'd rather be an idiot savant with a musical gift, but I'll settle for being a plain old idiot.

I have done many topics, including posting music I love, that got no response, or when someone responded it was tangential at best. It can be disappointing as I hope to discuss such things with people, but I don't take it really personally. Sometimes it's just not having the right people logged-in when one posts, and topics can quickly fall off the Latest Forum Posts list, and then not get much notice especially in the non-Prog fora. Sometimes I have been surprised when certain topics I made didn't get any response. One thing one might want to consider is, how often does oneself check out topics with music or other media of which one is unfamiliar, take the time to check out the media that other people post, and then opt to comment on those? I used to do that more.

This is a good point: the distinct probability that some have listened, were not knocked-out, and moved on.   There's no time to give one's continuous full attention to artists that don't excite you--  sacrifices must be made.   Further, it's a mistake to assume that people haven't listened and/or don't have the good taste to like something you do.

^^ It happens all the time to me, that I feel, things I posted are ignored. The first 3 years on this forum it was very frustrating. But in the mean time I do not care any more. Luckily I have another life outside the forum. Tongue

You assume correctly. It's amazing that someone can type so many words and say absolutely nothing of relevance. He writes words as if an army of ants are swarming on the page trying desperately to march right off it.

It happens to me all the time. I tend not to start many threads. Only occasionally. We're not all in this for the same thing. Like Mickey said a lot of us are not into discovering new music. I am, but only very slowly and occasionally do I get into new modern acts. Even if I did, there is so much of it and I would not hypothetically be interested in, let's say, the same sort of keyboard heavy group that another PA member may be interested in. There is and can be no canon for everyone to converge on. Or unless there is, then someone will call it the same old tired stuff. But I've opened threads on a very experimental guitarist, Henry Kaiser. He's been around for a good long while, but he's one who continues to churn out very Avant and varied material and it's generally ignored. I reject the idea that new and fresh can only be done by young people, though some act as if that's the case. Yes, I'm discovering more recent artists [one just recently has been Intervals], but it takes time and I don't have much of it. My real priority goes toward understanding more deeply the music and the creative process behind music. If it's not the priority of others, perhaps because they are not musicians themselves, that's alright, but we should understand that diversity. It has been much to my chagrin how little activity there is in Music and Musicians Echange and Tech Talk. Those sections of PA are virtual deserts almost as bad as the Blogs section. Well, that's my bit; one just needs to be realistic and know that we're not all here for the same thing. Mickey thinks it's strange that we don't all want the latest and freshest. I think it's strange that we don't all want to know who uses the "Snake Charmer" scale. Oh well. Such as it its.

A curse upon the heads of those who seek their fortunes in a lie. The truth is always waiting when there's nothing left to try. - Colin Henson, Jade Warrior (Now)
