Mel Collins for staying pure (although he's had plenty of guest starring roles on albums from Gerry Rafferty to Tears for Fears).

Phil Collins was among the best Prog drummers alongside Bill Bruford. I voted for Mel Collins for the entirety of his career. Phil is a "was". Mel is an "is". I'd like to say otherwise. Phil hasn't been a Prog drummer for a very long time.

Agree. Phil Collins comes behind no-one as a drummer, not even the great Bill Bruford. But he lacks the power of Jon Hisemanīs but is more versatile and very very fluid. He can play anything on drums. His work on the classic GENESIS albums and live, particularly on The Pound and The Lamb is simply sublime.
GENESISī biggest mistake was letting Phil go for lead vocals. His voice is weak and I personally canīt stand it although he was the perfect match with Peter Gabriel in singing harmonies. He should never had left the drum kit.

Mel Collinsī career continues till today, he has recently played with such greats as Arti + Mestieri, the Italian fusion masters. His career is something else.

I voted for the best drummer in Rock, and his beautiful harmony singing as well.
