Just started playing the Awakening expansion, not enjoying it so far. Feels really rushed and I'm only like an hour in. Also, I miss my old companions
I might start a new playthrough of Origins, actually. This doesn't seem to be particularly good. Edited by progkidjoel - February 01 2012 at 18:37 |

I did all the in-game DLC and all the side-quests and everything in about... 105 hours, I think? I was very thorough in my first playthrough. PC version, though. Spent a lot of time paused in combat because I really didn't use tactics at all.
It's... well... mediocre. I mean, if you're on the PS3, you'll at least have what amounts to somewhat-less-clunky combat. That said, any sense of strategy has been stripped wholesale from the game. Every twelve paces in hostile areas, you will encounter another group of 40 idiotic bandits or what-have-you trying to take your gallbladder without your consent. Every fight is the same: 10 or so enemies rush you, you kill them and 10 more fall out of the sky, kill them, more paratroopers, battle over. Rinse, repeat until you've killed about 16,000 people and the game mercifully ends. The story is disjointed and the characters are awkward and unlikable for the most part. Also, lots of egregious retcon. |

Mmm, I might pass if that's the case. I was considering picking it up.
I'll wait for the inevitable Ultimate/Complete/GOTY/Gold/Platinum/Whatever edition with all the DLC in that case. Started a new playthrough as a human rogue; once again, really impressed with how well they handle the introductions.

Well the Wall of Flesh was much easier than I expected. I didn't even bother building a bridge or mining enough hellstone for molten armor. But now I'm getting slaughtered by all the random things around in hardmode because my defense isn't high enough.

I just finished Shadow of the Colossus. That was the best money I've spent on video games in the past half year. Lately it's been Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet and Clank, Shadow of the Colossus, and Bully.
What can I say? PS2 games are very cheap. Metal Gear Solid 3 was brilliant. Shadow was awe-inspiring. Devil May Cry was stupidly fun and hectic. Ratchet and Clank was, well, predictable, but quite entertaining. And Bully, christ, I hated Bully. I've seen PS1 games with more appealing visuals.

Rockstar isn't big on graphics.
Kinda like Bioware isn't big on fixing things and like Valve isn't big on meeting deadlines.

New companions are better than the other ones, with exception to Leliana. |

2 PC games I used to really enjoy were Cossacks and American Conquest. These games are pretty old now and wont work on Windows Vista which is a shame as I'd still play them. Anyone know of any other strategic war games currently available (similar era) that are more up to date? Cheers. |

Did you get through DA2? If so, highlight below to read spoilers. Leliana is one of the most damn annoying retcons in DA2. Cut her head off at the Urn, and she still shows up again in DA2, apparently tasked with seeking out the person who beheaded her last time. How silly is that? |

Just started playing the Magicka expansion, The Stars Are Left, with one of my friends. It has some of the best enemies I've seen in a game.

Do you mean the Awakenings companions are better than the Origins ones? I have to disagree. There's basically no dialogue either which is lame. Also, Leliana is da best! About 12 hours into Awakenings now and it's actually pretty good. Story is pretty bad but I'm still loving it.

Just finished that off at 15h36m. Pretty lackluster ending, overall. The two main decisions of the end game were f**king hard, though.
Now starting The Darkspawn Chronicles.

Hahahaha, Darkspawn Chronicles is the only one of the DLC I haven't played. You may more fun with it though.
And no, Gamemako, not yet. I'm in Chapter II on DA2. |

Darkspawn Chronicles was pretty damn bad. Felt like a really bad gimmick. Short too.
Also did Leliana's Song and the Golems of Amgarrak last night; Leliana's song was really good but way too short. Golems was really boring and really short. Also, the difficulty warning for Golems was laughable, it was still really pretty easy on hard. There was one area where my whole party got knocked out, and that was only once :( Now onto Witch Hunt. Also, I am really glad this DLC all came with the disc. I'd be very disappointed if I bought most of this seperately/by itself.

I thought the first was pretty easy, and the epilogue confirmed my belief. Then DA2 came around and it turns out they failed to properly import the data, so suddenly (Awakening spoilers, highlight to read) everyone at the Keep was dead, which I didn't realize until I toward the end of DA2 and talked to another character from Awakening, who informed me that Anders was found dead. What? Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
Yes, it is pretty mediocre. All of the DA:O DLC is.
Oh? When I did it, The Harvester (a wuss himself) was spawning skeletons that dealt 500 damage per hit. I guess they fixed that?
Yep. As I said, all the DA:O DLC is pretty meh. |

^They might have fixed it; I was playing on hard although it still wasn't much of a challenge. Also, as James mentioned they nerfed the console build's difficulty to make up for the lack of tactical planning/hotkeys available.

Yeah, hard to say. I think it may have just been a bug anyway caused by being level 35 on Nightmare: enemies ended up being set at inpossibly-high levels, much like how Dogmeat in Fallout 3 becomes invincible if you take him into Broken Steel. |

It took me ages to kill The Harvester!
I ended up soloing him 'cause all my NPCs died. The only way I managed it was to trap him against a wall due to a bug. I think it was my build though. I didn't really have a decent mage to help me and I didn't have the right spells either. My main character was a sword and board warrior. And yep, The Harvester isn't that hard himself but it was all his damned skeletons that whacked me to bits and they respawn too. Maybe it's just harder on PC? By the way, I'm fairly sure I read a few months ago that they're releasing (or have released) a final patch for DA:O so saves get exported properly to DA2. Oh and Gamemako, I wouldn't know if what you said is true 'cause I always hardened Leliana and she never died in my game.

Been playing Metal Gear Solid pretty much for the first time ever. Excellent game, though the PS1 controls were a bit annoying since I'm so used to the more precise controles of 2 3 and 4.
Gamemako, have you tried the Legacy DLC for DA2? I thought it was great, if a little easy, and no more parachuting badies. |

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
