Well technically it comes under Post/Experimental, which encompasses stuff which isn't necessarily post metal at all.
For example, maudlin of the Well comes under Post/Experimental in Progarchives, but it's mainly for the experimental and metal aspects of the band, and that's the same for Agalloch, it's under Post/Experimental because of it's blend of several metal styles to create something pretty experimental in nature.

I didnt say I overdosed on post rock, I've just been absent listening to different music, and in this case atmospheric extreme metal... Agalloch and a lot of black metal. I'm listening to pg.losts debut right now, and I'm adoring it, so I havent lost my post rock love.

Anyways I had a good idea! We should have a competition to see who could write the best review over Agalloch's the Mantle!

^Haha, this could be the first in a series of album reviews we write as a group. There are plenty of great albums we rave about in this thread that don't get many (or many positive) reviews on the site. These bands/albums deserve a bump! However, I have been pretty lazy lately, what with work and school and all.

I need to review The Mantle also. This will be cute all writing together like a big happy family.

I haven't done a review in ages it seems.
I've already done two Agalloch reviews, the most recent one being Pale Folklore, which I gave 3 stars.
I haven't heard The Mantle in a while actually, I'll put that thing on repeat for the next couple of nights I guess.

just 3 stars for pale folklore, i think it deserves more, imo.
I finished listening From Oceans To Autumn - Calmed By The Tide , for the first time. and this thing is not bad at all, Post metal , with some psychedelic moments , slow post rockish tunes, agressive , massif riffs at the same  time, all balanced together , solid album.

Pale Folklore had too many weak points for me to give it a 4 unfortunately.
If you read my review, you'll see what I mean.

ok, if you say so, i haven't read your review yet,  i like that album very much, as embers dress the sky, dead winter days are astonishing songs ; she painted fire across the skyline parts are also good, but not to argue about it, it is all based on personal taste.

As Embers Dress the Sky is incredible, the best song off the album.
I just love the feeling from that song.
Are you familiar with Ashes Against the Grain too?

oooooo yes , Ashes Against the Grain kicks the ground , that is awesome album, maybe their best, imo. my hymn is Not Unlike The Waves , i've heard 1000000 times, falling snow ,limbs, and another impressive trilogy  Our Fortress Is Burning including some ambient/folkish material is just great

When I first heard Not Unlike The Waves, it just blew me mind to pieces.
That was the song that made me fall in love with Agalloch.
A friend of mine showed the song to me back in 2006 and from then onwards I've been a fan.
When did you get into them?
