Skyrim shots released. Some neat tricks involved to make the game appear neater without increasing total resource draw. Would make an excellent PSP2/NGP tech demo (you wouldn't really notice the low-res textures and stuff). Character models look genuinely decent this time around, as we would expect. The Gamebryo engine has made some strides in character models since TES4 was released 5 years ago, and it looks like they've taken the next incremental step.

^ What annoyed me about Oblivion was the boring gameplay. Some of it was fun, but most of the time you would simply be leveling up in auto-generated dungeons. I think that this whole idea of the world adjusting to your level takes all the fun out of exploring. Like for example, when you start out and you're on a low level, when you walk through the woods you'll encounter rats, about half way through you'll encounter wild dogs - and later still you'll encounter bears. Duh - encounter beast, click click click click, move on.

Screw that. let there be dangerous areas and safe areas and areas in between, and when you venture into dangerous areas and you're not strong enough yet - you die. That's how you would build an interesting game world IMO.

Portal is mindblowing.

Amazing that in this day and age of 20 hour epics, a game you can finish in one sitting is hailed as a masterpiece, but it's really that good.
There are plenty of short games that are viewed as masterpieces.

I cannot more agree about this, I hated the level scaling in Oblivion. What's the point in levelling up if you're not getting legitimately stronger?
There are some good mods which replace the levelling system with a more generic RPG XP system and enemy groupings locked into levels though, so you don't ever come across a super strong rat or a super weak bear.

And headcrabs and zombies were by far the worst part of Half-Life, I have no idea why Valve decided HL2 needed more of them. To be fair, my sh*tty integrated video card had horrible draw distance so I really missed a lot of the ambiance (which I guess is probably what's needed to propel you through the complete lack of story), but I can't see myself enjoyed the gameplay much more. And I'm pretty much done with videogames so it doesn't really matter.

I think your opinion of Half Life 2 is probably more unconventional than any music-related opinion you've expressed on this server Henry.
What makes you say you are done with video games? Are there really no games coming out these days that capture your interest?

HL2 is more about the whole experience than any one individual part.
The episodes get progressively better.

Just pre-ordered LA Noir and ever since watching the new trailer called Orientation I am very anxiously awaiting this game.

Right now I am deep into Dragon Quest IX Sentinels of the Starry Skies on my DSiXL.

Jody, I have to say, I completely agree about Oblivion (and Morrowind).  I doubt I'll be touching Skyrim with a 20 foot Barge Pole.

I just don't like the game.  It's boring, as you say.  Once you're out of the first "dungeon" and outside, it's just fetch quests for ages and even the ones that aren't fetch quests are repetitive.

Hard core PC / RPG/strategy gamer here, recently acquired a PSP ... and i am, so far, disappointed and amazed at the lack of classics, besides Final Fantasy
I have only 3 games so far: God of War, terrible, boring slash and run. FF: crisis core, not bad but i feel like im watching a movie most of the time, and Medal of Honor: Heroes... shooters ... i can stand some shooters in PC, but in console without a mouse? hell no...

So here I am asking for recommendations, anything similar to diablo will do it for me.

I have Dungeons Siege, assasins creed and persona 3 in line to get... unless you guys tell me they arent worthy.

I Could have bought a Third World country with the riches that I've spent

Monster Hunter Freedom is somewhat Diablo-ish and a super addictive PSP game. Persona 3 is fantastic too, definitely check that out.

IF you're into JRPG's, Valkyria Chronicles II is an awesome PSP game too; the gameplay is kinda like turn based strategy although it's hard to explain. Definitely worth checking out, though.

The level scaling was pretty widely panned in Oblivion. More than anything, it was remarkably poorly done. Once you were level 45, you'd watch a bandit wearing Daedric Armor cut down a poor little steel-wearing Legionnaire. It didn't make the slightest bit of sense. Try making it through Kvatch late game without having anyone die. It's hilarious. You're supposed to protect characters so weak they can't as a group face a single one of the opponents you brutally slaughter.

One of the most popular mods is still the one that axes that old system.

I've been going back and playing a few 360 games that I got some DLC for.  I just finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, then went and played through the Mass Effect 2 extras, and currently finishing Bioshock 2's Minerva's Den DLC.  Good stuff!

too true. Why would anyone bother being a bandit when a single piece of their armour is worth enough to buy a mansion in a town?
It kinda made levelling nearly entirely pointless, and more of a time-suck than anything, the more I think about it.

On that note: Thankfully, Skyrim's level scaling is gonna be closer to the Fallout 3 system, which was still pretty broken, although definitely much more useful than Oblivion's. Hopefully there'll be some good mods to clean it up sometime soon after the release, though.

Still New Vegas and Halo Reach.  I refuse to pay for games anymore with so much music equipment I want ( and I just sunk 1000 $ in my super guitar).  So the only ones I will buy are ones that give me absurd amounts of game play.  Fallout and Halo have both been series' of which I play them forever til the next one is out.  Really I could just play New Vegas over and over and thats not even taking into account the upcoming downloadable content.
Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.
