I love learning new mathematical theories, but I hate sitting down and doing the homework. Also, algebra is starting to make me sick, one more semester and I'm done.

Oh, I beg to differ... ![](smileys/smiley6.gif) | Well let's hear it. How'd you do? |
- A in Religion
- B in English
- D in Maths
- D in Science
- B in Geography
- A in History (influential people)
- B in History (Superpower)
- C in PE
- B in French
Its not terrible, but now I don't have qualifying marks to do the the science or maths courses I've applied for in Years 11 and 12, which means I have to change my entire course package ![](smileys/smiley7.gif) |

I'm insanely sick of having to actually do maths anyway - One semester in year 8 when I tried insanely hard I pulled a B, so then I got moved up to advanced, which I always get D's in. (D's in advanced are the equivalent of B's in intermediate [the next level down] at my school though.)
I'm just sick of working hard to get crappy marks in maths.

Seriously joel, I don't care if you were kicked in the head by a horse, there is no acceptable reason to pull a D in high school math. And I struggled with math as well!

Latin exams are in a way similar to the Olympic Games. The most important thing should not be to win but to take part..

My math teacher told me I was one of the few kids that really understood what we were doing in trig., that most kids only memorize formulas, definitions, etc.

I had the lamest Latin classes my whole high school career, it was awesome. We would always have to translate a large paragraph, but we would go over it in class beforehand, so I just memorized the paragraph in English...

I'm just sick of working hard to get crappy marks in maths. | What math have you covered? I am inquisitive. |
Semester 1, year 10:
-Quadratic equations (carrying on from year 9)
-Probability
-Consumer Arithmetix
-Number plane graphs and coordinate geography
-Similiarity
Semester 2, year 10:
-Polynomials
-Functions and Logarithms
-Advanced statistics
-Further algebra (crap like The graphs with equations y = x2 and y = 2x + 3 intersect at the points...)
-Further trigonometry (carrying on from year 9)
The exam which caused me to fail was all of those units (usually we're only tested one on semester each exam, although they did both at the end of the year this time), and about 3 pages on each within an hour and a half. The class below gets a sheet of notes, with a way easier exam

I thought trig was fairly easy to grasp. It's all triangles. Calculus I was the same way. The rest of it, not really.
Oh joel, the graphs intersecting questions are a gift.

As I said, I'm in advanced maths, and getting a D is the same as getting a B in intermediate (the next level down).
For maths methods (the class I'm doing next year) the advanced GPA you need is 3.0, although you need a 4.5 from intermediate.
So I'm basically a B student.

I'm just very slow at getting math concepts. By the time I understand a chapter the class would have moved three chapters ahead. I also hate math textbooks. Even more worthless than the Bible.

I know they're easy, I was just giving them as an example of that chapter of work.

Australia is f**ked up if getting a D is the same as getting a B in a lower level class and doesn't hurt you at all.

I think that most of the time math is hard because people over complicate it. They dwell on their errors and think of how they got a problem wrong, when you should be reinforcing how to do it correctly. For example, a simple question about squaring a binomial is always going to be answered incorrectly by some percentage of a class, no matter how much the teacher harps on it. I think my instructor spends as much time talking about math classes in general as he does about math.

Its just insanely unbalanced. The intermediate kids did a test on f*cking basic area which is easier than most of the class work we do.

Here's a tip, don't move to NZ and take high school subjects. It doesn't mean sh*t, and it is either stupidly easy or pointlessly hard or biased. Oh, and Joel, forget maths, unless you want to do engineering or some stuff like that at uni.
