Plant it in either one of the threads.

The storyline in 1984 is better than Brave New World's, at least IMO. Brave New World was more interesting in theory though.

Ah, Pablo. Has one perchance read We?
I suspect that's your announcement. Am I correct?
If so, what were your thoughts on it?
|
Yep, you're correct.
A month from now, if I'm not mistaken. Anyways, I enjoyed it but felt I had already read it before, and indeed I had. But that's not We's "fault", Orwell really took a lot from it, mainly the whole plot.
Still, a very worthy read, plus the edition I bought(in spanish!) includes a great 20 page intro about dystopian novels and Zamiatin. |
Hence why you should have read it first. I've not read Nineteen Eighty-Four yet but have read Brave New World.
It's superior to Brave New World but I still love Brave New World as well because it was written in English to begin with and doesn't suffer from poor British translations by non-novelists (mine was by an American, so it was a bit jarring in places for me).
|
Oh, I see. However, I prefer 1984 over We not considering the fact that the plot are almost identical, Orwell in his novel makes the totalitary government much clearer thus creating a darker mood to it all.
We had some sci-fi features that 1984 doesn't have, plus the math-related stuff from We also is a unique feature from Zamitatin.
I prefer 1984 over Brave New World also, but in terms of creativity, Brave New World wins.

Brave New World's gonna be my next Huxley. I've already gone through Point Counterpoint, Gioconda's hideous smirk and Eyeless in Gaza (struggling with the latter, 500 pages in a week), so either I'll refresh my memory on the former, and go already with BNW.

But then Brave New World's idea was influenced from H.G. Wells and before that from Jerome K. Jerome, I gather. Although I have yet to seek the two novels/novellas in question.

Do we have the ability to hide threads? That would be great, that way you don't know if someone replied to it/necro-posted on it, so you can avoid the entire thing.

What do you think about Point Counterpoint? My father has a dozen of Huxley's books, but really not convinced to start with any, haha.

I don't have a card that I can use online, it's quite annoying. I'm willing to pay someone to order it though. I should try to convince someone to do that sometime.
|
Paypal. Although I think you need a card to set it up... not sure. It uses your Bank Account though. And damn it, this album still pwns long since its release in 1969.

It's...complicated? I can't say, it was read years ago and it didn't have a strong effect.

![Shocked Shocked](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif) You scare me Victor, you read all new posts but don't post in any and then surprise us that you know what we have posted! ![Wink Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)
It's really a pitty, such a fantastic album. Only the first 16 minutes of the title track work well, after that it's downhill.
Finishing the debut, which it's also fantastic.

I tried to post in "now what are you listening to", but it seems to make me tired after two attempts. It was supposed to be my first Metheny album, but since it flopped, I settled for Beyond The Missouri Sky (with Charlie Haden), which is nice. I do indeed expected greatness from Metheny, I'll listen to much more from now on.
