Totally agree. Besides of Mario 64 and The Ocarine of Time, the whole console it's a waste of bits...

PS1 and PS2 ate it alive... Metal Gear Solid and the whole saga of Resident Evils are way more better than anything in 64

The N64 did have the Banjo Kazooies, still a pinnacle of platforming.

Banjo-Kazooie was better than Super Mario 64, and had an excellent soundtrack to boot.

I agree with all these comments regarding Banjo Kazooie. Loved it 12 years ago when I first played it and still do to this day.

I liked the PS1 more. Both beat the f**k out of the PS2 though.

I think the PSX is superior to N64. Still I am playing lots of gems from that console such as

  • Mario 64
  • Ocarina of time
  • Majora s mask
  • Banjo Kazooie
  • Perfect Dark
  • Jet force Gemini
  • Goldeneye
  • Smash bros

On the other hand PSX had

  • Final Fantasy
  • Resident Evil
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Syphon Filter ( Very underrated game)
  • VAGRANT STORY ( HUGE MASTERPIECE)
  • Silent Hill
  • Parasite Eve
  • Driver
  • Winning Eleven/ Pro Evolution Soccer
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • SOUL REAVER
  • Twisted Metal
  • GRAN TURISMO
  • Medal of Honor
  • Quake
  • Street fighter alpha series

And many more I do not remember right now

And on top of that PSX was cheaper , so I think Sony had a better console. However , it was due to Nintendo s fault , if the N64 had had CD s instead of cartridges it would have been the ultimate gaming machine.

Glad to see love for Banjo Kazooie. I remember saying back in the day that it was superior to Mario 64 and everybody telling me to shut up.

You're all forgetting Paper Mario and Mario Party though, N64 classics. Mario Party 2 was the best one on N64. Yeah it was better than 3, 3 was messy.

DK64 was not so good though. On paper it took things even further than BK2 but in practice it was just too much. It went on and on and on. Also I think by that point anyone who was interested had gone through so many platformers that they realised that all you would ever get for actually bothering to collect everything was a silly little clip that would never justify all the hours spent. Plus, the new characters sucked.

I remember what was really held against the N64 was that Mario Kart 64 was noticably worse than the SNES Super Mario Kart. This really stung as before it's release, Mario Kart 64 was anticipated as a reason to buy the system and when everyone started going "Um actually the SNES one is better" people were turned off and began to doubt Nintendo.

Oh, also, Conker's Bad Fur Day. Not a good game, but a fascinating one that is worth hunting down for interested in unusual/alternative games.

Oh and I was also hugely offended by Bomberman 64. What was this platforming nonsense about? I wanted Bomberman.

That's odd, because I always thought MK64 was better than SMK.  Part of it may be nostalgic reasons (which could just as well apply to the SMK fans), but I still think everything MK64 did was an improvement over SMK.  Am I the only one who feels this way?

I've heard that view expressed before but you're certainly in the minority.

Yeah but expectations were pretty low for that.

I was a Nintendo die hard for years but now I'm beginning to wonder if my love for them is almost entirely built around the legacy of the SNES. GC did have great games, more so than N64, you really can blame market trends for the GC not doing so well. But though the Wii is selling better and I loved the concept when it was introduced, it's actually a bit rubbish for a serious gamer. Virtually every game is built around waggling, only the pictures on the screen are different. Just because you *can* waggle the controller doesn't mean it has to be a fundamental element of every title.

All this being said, games are games. While older is generally better, just like music, I like lots of newer games.

Finally going to start GOW3 later

I'm thinking of getting Dragon Age: Origins soon, as I've noticed that Dragon Age 2 is due out in March.  Thoughts?

Dragon Age: Origin: Well, I've played it and it's very well done, provided you're prepared to sit through a lot of story. Not my thing at all though, I don't like to have 3 minutes of cutscenes forced upon me for every 5 minutes I actually get to play. Same problem with Mass Effect.

I never get this story thing in games at all. I haven't come across any game story that could remotely stand up to any half decent book. I always feel like asking those people who go nuts over the 'compexities' of Baldu'rs Gate, whether they've ever finished a book, I mean really read one right to the end.
