I love Torre, and I really hope they don't fire him. However, I would really like to see what Mattingly could lead this team to. I just hope we end up with somebody who can handle a bullpen properly.
I'm looking forward to the starting rotation next year though: Wang, Hughs (with a change-up to complement that incredible curve), Kennedy, Pettite, and either Jaba (I think he should stay in the bullpen, frankly) or someone else. |

the funny thing is... I do think they will be much better next year... but the question may be... god I can't believe I'm saying this.. .. will they be able to score enough runs. Wonder who flies the coop during the off season.. that is an 'old' team. .and a lot of free agents. |

The media and fans are freaking out in St Louis with La Russa still undecided and rumor of George wanting him for the Yanks. If Joe is cut loose he got a raw deal.

you know... I wonder as well.. I remember last night someone commented how, trailing the Indians in an elimination game in the playoffs, the Yanks were seen on camera laughing carrying on. Maybe the 'Mr. T.' father figure type has to go... that team didn't have any fire.. no intensity... and maybe someone like Mattingly who might kick some ass would be a good change for the team. Personally though.. I don't think it will be him. Who was it... Joe Guaraldi (sp?) has been waiting in the wings. I think George wanted him last year after the Tigers took out the Yanks. |

rumours.... he is not a Yankee man... you know how George is. Plus LaRussa is too smart to go to that zoo.. with a team that if not next year. .than soon is going to be rebullt. Edited by micky - October 09 2007 at 21:09 |

I think there's a decent chance of Mattingly taking the coaching spot since George picked him for bench coach. However, George does have a tenancy to do things that are totally unexpected, so I guess we'll really just have to wait and see.

I know... George is a force of nature. Baseball just wouldn't be baseball without George and the Evil Empire. |

Torre is a great manager, and he did get into the playoffs what 12 years in a row? Including this year when they started 21-29. And it sure is sounding like A-rod will leave. It's true he dosn't get much love here.....

Odd game, but Colorado Rockies are winning 1 - 0
Go Rockies!
What a silly interference by Justin Uptobn, because of this the umpire gave Colorado the Double Play and returned a runner from third to second base, what a silly attitude that almost caused problems when the public started to throw bottles to the field..

How about Trot Nixon beating his old team yesterday? It's nice to see that series tied, I'm not too keen on the Red Sox this year, I'd rather see someone else win it all.

Here's an interesting article about Coors Field:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ak_41vVaW1iGHU2HBLpD_RgRvLYF?slug=ap-nlcs-humidor&prov=ap&type=lgns This quote really caught my attention: "There were 13.4 runs per game scored at Coors in the year before the humidor's introduction; that number was down by nearly three runs this season. In 2001, there were a major league-high 268 homers hit out of Coors Field. This year, there were 185, which ranked 10th." That's a huge difference! |

13.4 runs per game? By the 2001 Rockies (who weren't exactly a powerhouse)? I knew it was a big number, but I didn't realize it was that big.
I bet they're turning that humidor to 100% humidity right now, considering how well they've been pitching. |

^ I assume it's including all runs scored in a game, not just the Rockies. Still, that's a hell of a high number.

Oh, and the number this year is driven down by the fact that the Rockies are actually a good team. Their pitching wasn't exactly dominant in 2001. But was it worse than their offense?
