Ok, here's to you my impressions:

-- Daktari: never heard this theme. very funny; rhythmically the music is more complex than it seems and perhaps it is a mix of various rhythms. But it will not go on the podium.

-- Twin Peaks. I remember that theme song and also the tv serie. The music is hypnotic, it is based on a few chords, and the slowness makes the notes even easier to remember. Especially beautiful is the piece in which it rises in tone. Ambient music. But it's a little too repetitive to get on the podium.

-- Rote Erde: I had never heard this music. As often happens, Christian once again put on a piece that I like very much. I was sure he would have chosen an instrumental piece, and here the music rises a lot of quality and pathos when the harmonica arrives, up to a thriller crescendo, with increasingly threatening sounds. Podium candidate.

-- Matador: classical piano music, and relaxing, nice.

-- Lucidity Gone: I had never heard even this song. The beginning is slow and very ambient music style, and the rest also confirms it, although there is an interesting progression. I don't like electronic sound (especially percussion) but the composition is very good, as often happens with Greg's songs. Will it be enough to reach the podium?

-- Boardwalk Empire: the theme with Steve Buscemi already sets me up very well. Excellent crescendo and very incisive arrangement, almost pompous but manages not to fall into the bombastic. As always with Mike, the sound and the arrangement are very shiny, bordering on kitsch, but I like kitsch. Another candidate on the podium.

Glad to hear you liked the Iris Dement track (I guess I've been spelling her name all wrong). You will get a big laugh out of this track where she guests with John Prine (RIP as he just died recently from the damn Covid-19, another huge loss).

Cover up your monitors everyone as this one should have Micky spewing beer everywhere.

-- Cowboy BeBop. Very captivating song, which uses all the tricks to seduce. I would say "ruffiana" miusic in Italian: how does it translate? Raff help me! "Pimp" I'm afraid it's not good. It is really music that wants to overwhelm you, and if I did the snob I would say that it is exaggerated and almost vulgar in its ease. However, given that here I consider above all what I like, this "pimp" music struck me: candidate for the podium.

-- I had never listened with attention to the music of the serie La Piovra. It may seem strange but as an Italian as I am I have never seen a single film of La Piovra and the actor Michele Placido has always been unpleasant to me, as indeed to many Italians. He is a very questionable person, but I must say one thing: when he started to make the film director, he churned out some absolute masterpieces of Italian cinema, among other things on serious or political themes, especially of social relevance, and therefore I carry some of his films in my heart, even though the person seems slimy. Anyway, good music but not enough good to reach the podium.

-- Verano Azul: never heard this music. Reminds me of Chabrier's classical music. This too is brazenly "ruffian" music, which wants to please, which wants to seduce with carefree atmospheres. But musically it does not have the character and appeal of Cowboy BeBop.

I still miss a few songs. I must say that it requires a good search to find all the songs to listen and to vote on within the pages of this thread. As soon as I can, I go to mathman's playlist to listen to the ones I miss.

Here's my top 3:

1. Lucidity Gone - Once again, Greg picked out a track that pulls me in right away. This is the kind of thing that I really like and now I will have to check out the series.

2. The Leftovers - Like I said earlier, this is probably the most beautiful music to a series this entire decade. I was a big fan of the series and every time that theme came on it made the show even more heart wrenching.

3. Cowboy Be-bop - I absolutely loved this. I have heard of this series before and was a little familiar with the comic having ran a media store in the 00's, but wasn't familiar with the music. It's not just a great tune for the series, it's also one that I would enjoy by itself, in a way, reminding me of the quirky feel of Secret Chiefs 3's music.

Lorenzo, I did love the Randy Newman track and it just barely missed the top 3, but is definitely a runner up along with the Bojak Horseman theme and "Black Hand" by I New Trolls.

Some more ramblings to follow up on my picks.

@Mickey, would have voted "Woke Up This Morning" in if it had stayed. While I've heard the song and have the original Alabama 3 album, it's a good one even though I haven't seen the show. Only until last few years did I have HBO. Missed out on most but a few HBO shows I do know.

@Greg and Mike, and one of those being Westworld. I did consider it, but when I decided to start the week with Mike Post theme, I left it behind. And I included Ramin Djawadi last week as he did the Pacific Rim score. I agree his use of covers in Westworld is really good. I liked this one of Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box.

Another HBO show I thought of was Watchmen but had Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross last week.

Overall, a lot of nostalgia in this thread and I am pretty sure I watched Electra Woman and Dyna Girl in first run back in the mid 70's.

And I'll throw in another cheesy 70's Hanna Barbera (to complete my circling back to my nominations from last week):

"...And Godzookiy" LOL

But, back to the songs. My winner was "Straight Up and Down" and while I can't comment on how well it fit with the series, the edit was really well done to work as the title number. I like the full Brian Jonestown Massacre song as well.

After that, I liked the 'coolness' of credits theme to La Piovra. Again, not familiar with the series, but the music went well with the graphic of the guy with the smoking gun.

With Cowboy Bebop, it had that snazzy spy theme feel (sort of like my alternative last week with the Incredibles). A lot of good original spy themes didn't get mentioned. On of my favorites was the Saint.

Digressing a lot. Others that almost made my top three were Rota Erde, Lucidity Gone, and Black Hand.

I read the synopsis on Utopia and it sounds like my kind of show. I don't see it currently available with any of my streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime), so that's a bummer.

I have not been a fan before of Alan Moore, because I didn't know about him. But his novel, "Jerusalem," just blew me away, and made me search out where the heck he came from. Haven't even listened to your YT yet, but just wanted to say that. If you have staying power with reading, it is absolutely worth the effort.

Lorenzo, in this case I'd translate "ruffiana" as "seductive". "Pimp" is a noun, and - as you said - would not be the right word in this particular context.

Back to the music, so far my favourite is "Rote Erde". I'll probably have another round of listening later today before I express my votes.

Danny Elfman ... not sure he only did the opening theme for The Simpsons. He also did a lot of movies and some of them were BIG.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

It was nice to hear those Hanna Barbera themes in English for the first time, I only knew them in French.

It's been a while since I saw Death Note, I completely forgot about the Post Rockular Bells.

I didn't consider Hawaii 5-0 and Verão Azul because I was already familiar with them. I like some music from New Trolls a lot but not that song, maybe I was expecting something more progressive.

The two songs I enjoyed the most were easily the song from Utopia (weird electronics and sampling, nice!) and BoJack's theme (it's funky and I'm a sucker for Mellotron). I gave my third vote to Land of the Lost for its sheer ridiculousness.

Land of the Lost, I had heard, but didn’t remember. I would listen to it again for sheer novelty. Utopia 2 was intriguing, but not as fun.

Black Hand. Certainly infectious, but not as much of a fan of the music, despite the earworm of the words.

yeah.. I felt that about Matador as well and The Leftovers was perhaps the most beautiful piece of music of the whole lot.. choices and alts.

and oh no.. disrespect?? The ultimate form of respect. Besides Pedro knows I love him... Heart
