Topic: Genesis albums in your correct order Posted: September 23 2008 at 10:10 |
I picked out the essential studio albums by Genesis, excluded the debut and added And then there were three.
So that means their best 8 albums (according to the ratingaverages on PA). Your challenge is to put them in the right order for your personal taste.
I added And then there were three to see if everyone puts it in last place or are there maybe surprises ... ?
I will do the kick off:
1. Wind and Wuthering
2. Selling England by the pound
3. Foxtrot
4. Trespass
5. Nursery cryme
6. Trick of the tail
7. The lamb lies down on broadway
8. And then there were three
Maybe a surprise no.1 and the addition that although it's no.4, I believe Trespass is the most consistent album of them all, the only one without a weaker track.
Please add some comment to your line-up.

1. Foxtrot (Brilliant album from beginning to end.) 2. Trespass (Not a weak song here either.) 3. The Lamb (Starts out awesome, but drags a bit towards the end.) 4. Wind and Wuthering (Great.) 5. Nursery Cryme (The Musical Box and Seven Stones are amazing songs, the rest is just ok.) 6. Trick of the Tail (Nice consistent album, although a bit cheesy at parts.) 7. Selling England (Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show are great, the rest is just ok.) 8. And Then There Were Three (Not good.)

1. We Can't Dance
2. Abacab
3. Invisible Touch
Oops. That's not the right list.
Try that again:
1. SEBTP
2. ATOTT
3. Foxtrot
4. Trespass
5. W&W
6. ATTWT (Not a bad effort considering they lost an important member of the band)
7. The Lamb (Great in parts, mediocre in other parts)
8. Nursery Cryme (Two of Genesis greatest songs "Musical Box" and "Fountain" but the production is muddy and the rest of the album is uneven).
The first five are all wonderful in my opinion, nearly flawless throughout. Actually I would probably put Duke in at number 6 just above ATTWT had that been in keeping with the thread.

A Trick of the Tail
The Lamb
Wind & Wuthering
Foxtrot
Trespass
SEBTP
Nursery Cryme
ATTWT
ATTWT may be last on my list, but it's only weak compared to the rest. I still think it's a great album..

SEBTP (They really had honed their craft by now (Hackett&Banks to the fore)
Nursery Cryme (I love the 'little' tracks on this)
Foxtrot (Best known for it's epics but the 'little' tracks are gorgeous)
The Lamb (A sudden left turn.Weird and wonderful)
Trespass (Suffers from 'debut album production' but includes some beautiful gems)
AToTT (Gabriel has gone but they create a unique atmosphere in his absence)
Wind and Wuthering (Hackett's swansong and what a beautiful leaving card he presents with Blood on the Rooftops)
ATTWT (Come back Gabriel.Tony Banks's lyrics are becoming even more banal.A good album. Some very good tracks but the fire is going cold)

1. Trick of the tail - I love that full sound, no bad tracks 2. Wind and Wuthering - Same as 1., but perhaps a bit too much of the same 3. Foxtrot - Supper's Ready, what can I say? 4. Selling England by the pound - Not into Epping Forrest, otherwise great 5. Nursery cryme - A bit rough around the edges 6. Trespass - I also like the consistancy and the brooding atmosphere 7. And then there were three - Not as bad as alway said, lots of memorable memories 8. The lamb lies down on broadway - Sorry, I never got into this one, perhaps if I give it another 30 years or so.

It's just over Foxtrot, tiny, tiny letters with a "more white than grey" grey color.
I haven't heard it yet.

1. Selling England By The Pound 2. Nursery Cryme 3. Trespass 4. Foxtrot 5. The Lamb 6. A Trick Of The Tail 7. Wind And Wuthering 8. From Genesis To Revelation
Don't know any others... for various reasons.

Okay, I haven't heard all Genesis albums. Not even close. But I LOVE Lamb. It is in my top five.
"3. The Lamb (Starts out awesome, but drags a bit towards the end.)"
And, I just kinda chuckled from this, because, in my opinion, the second album is way better. Just like the tracks better.
I really like Selling England and Wind and Wuthering too. . .

1. The Lamb ( my fav of all time, great story if difficult to understand but open to interpretation. Love disc 2 which brings to conclusion of the story and fav tracks the Lamia, Anyway, Light dies down on Broadway, and In the Rapids. I actually like disc 2 better though I know I'm in the minority.
2. Selling England by the Pound The ultimate in Pastoral Prog, Gabriel voice both sweet and powerful, one one weak track.
3. Trespass- really I feel this and Foxtrot are tied but Foxtrot gets all the love most of the time and I just love Trespass
4 or 3b. Foxtrot - simply epic
5. Nursrey Crime - Would be higher but for the production and certainly The Muscial Box is one of their very best.
6. Wind and Wuthering - Still a great album but 2 tracks I don't care for
7. Trick of the Tail - Mad Man Moon would be my fav post PG track and Entangled is sublime, that's two great track where W&W has Blood on the Rooftops, 11th Earl and One for the Vine.
8. ATTWT- this album is not my cup of tea.
