Hey all.

One of my mates does silkscreening, and does shirts with whatever you want on them for pretty cheap. So, I'm trying to come up with something to put on it that's prog related. But, i'm out of ideas. The best i've come up with is Progrock in large letters, with "music for musicians" underneath, because I told my friend that once. But that hardly does it justice.

So help me out if you can. Try and give "Progrock" a funny/cool/truthful/awesome caption. I'm trying and failing :(

Thanks. Also, I'm not sure where to put this, if it should be somewhere else, my appologies

Thanks.
Syn.

Here's a few ideas off the top of my head:

  • PROG IS AS PROG DOES
  • I LIKE PROG. THUS I WIN.
  • MIND MUSIC
  • PROG: SO WHAT IF IT'S PRETENTIOUS? SO AM I.

'Music for musicians' makes it seem too exclusive and alienates it from the average person, so I personally would not make that into a t-shirt.  Plus I think a majority of the people who listen to progressive rock aren't musicians.

I think if you changed "wanky pretentious crap" to "wanky pretentious awesomeness and that's why i love it" you might have something

I would make a t-shirt that said "hey, even if you might not like it, at least it's better than rap"

I think when you say that progressive rock is music for the mind it would make it seem that it is not music for the soul.

I would put this

Progressive Rock: Music that is meant to be HEARD, Not Danced to.

or something like, Progressive Rock: heard in your ear (and mind), not on the dance floor, like an M&M commercial.

hmm that's all for now, it's late, will think of more

I was merely kidding.

On a more serious note, I always had one little sentence as a definition of prog in my mind - "Thinking Man's Music".

Or something like "In Constant Advancement Since 1967", but actually now I think the first idea was better.

don't make one, it is a universal fact that wearing phrases on a t shirt makes you look like a total douchebag, nevermind a phrase that puts down other music genres.

My brother, knowing my penchant for Progressive Rock, gave me a present a couple of years back: a T-shirt he had made, with the logos of around 20 Progressive Rock groups printed on the back. He'd scanned the logos from the album covers and used his inkjet printer to print the logos on special iron-on transfer paper, which he then ironed onto a white T-shirt. It was a nice surprise and actually looks good.

How do any of the suggested captions put down other music genres?

You should make it say "Punk Rock Sucks" in Roger Dean font.

I would just go with the cover of King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King" and have a caption:

Does this scare you?  Then prog rock isn't for you!

Or if you like Neo prog:

Neo Prog is yummy!

Who gave prog a bad name?

Phil Collins - but I still like it.

Howabout 'All your Prog are belong to Us (and Them)" ?

That one is only half serious, but I thought it might be funny.

I actually like the idea of "Prog Rock Sucks" in the Roger Dean font, myself.

Or, "Prog, music for that space between your ears"

or, "Prog. When Arrested Development is a good thing."

or, "Prog. It's not called progressive for nothing."

If you like art of musicians, check my site (the music section) and tell me what you think! http://www.kenmeyerjr.com

How about a big Queen logo?

They are prog related.
