Brain Salad Surgery is widely regarded as their definitive work BUT the whole collection in this period is worth having.ELP was like a musical project.Following their evolution through those first 5 albums is fascinating. The simple an

Actually I love alot of their music., but perhaps I suffer from Gentle Giant syndrom....I don't care for attempted humor very often in prog and their silly hoedown songs irritate me a bit.. I still don't like Yes all that much, but as I promised

I love their albums up to BSS for what they are, warts and all. Yes, if I was being honest there proably are a few bits which are disposable, the drum solo on "Tank" (I don't appreciate drum solos), the piano solo on side 2 of Tarkus, but little els

Brain Salad Surgery is, in my opinion, the most complete ELP album out there. I have to agree that Benny the Bouncer isn't a favorite of mine, but it's nonetheless an outstanding piece. Jerusalem is wonderful. Toccata is excellent. Still You Turn Me On is

Well after many listens to BSS I have changed my mind. This one would get 4 stars. Still can't call it a masterpiece but I would definitely call it essential.
