Another musical legend left us Cry

Oscar-winning composer Vangelis Papathanassiou has passed away, according to an announcement by law office that represented him. The announcement said Papathanassiou, better known simply by his first name, Vangelis, died at hospital in France on Tuesday, where he was being treated for Covid-19.

Papathanassiou was 79.

His musical career spanned six decades, as a performer, producer and composer, with his most distinguished work being the soundtrack for the 1982 film “Chariots of Fire”. Other Hollywood projects included the iconic Blade Runner and 1492.

Leaving Greece in the late 1960s for Paris he joined and performed with the progressive rock band Aphrodite’s Child, where he teamed up with another notable Greek artist, Demis Roussos.

Don't know what it's worth, because I don't know this site but they claim it's a hoax:
Originally posted by <a href=https://fr.mediamass.net/people/vangelis/rumeurdeces.html target=_blank rel=nofollow>Mediamass.net</a> Mediamass.net wrote:

L'entourage aurait « démenti formellement » la mort du musicien

La fausse information est ensuite reprise par quelques radios puis par des médias du monde entier. Ce n'est que tard dans la soirée de mercredi que le porte-parole du musicien se serait fendu d'un communiqué laconique qui « dément formellement le décès de Vangelis ».

Meaning that a rumour spread by some radios and internet media has been denied by a spokesperson for the musician...

Sad news, My Introduction with him wasn't long ago, but still, in this short period of time his music helped me a lot.
It's time to dive deeper into his huge discography. Rest In Peace.

Chariots of Fire was only the tip of the iceberg for this great prog keyboardist. He will be sorely missed.

This is really sad news. Really sad news. I have loved his music for so many years, and his collaboration with Jon was about as life affirming as it comes.

RIP. Without doubt, a heavenly choir has been enhanced tonight.

First Schulze now Vangelis... I just bought "1492: Conquest of Paradise" recently. I used to have it on a cassette as a kid. And now he dies...

I still remember all of the youths teaching each other how to play Chariots of Fire on the piano. Very nostalgic. Ended up buying a number of Vangelis albums and soundtracks over the years searching for interesting keyboard sounds and pieces. RIP Vangelis.
