Went with Permanent Waves...perhaps my favorite Rush lp...and I'm not a huge Rush fan btw.
Gabriel close behind with Yes, Roxy , and Eloy.

The albums I know I've heard in full are Civilian (which was a disappointment compared to the first eight -- I bought GG"s whole discography in almost one fell swoop -- thought I was doing very well financially at the time), Peter Gabriel's Melt which I bought when searching for some specific music from, as it turns out, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway pre having internet (already loved Games Without Frontiers from Melt anyway), Rush's Permanent Waves (never owned but a friend of mine I shared a townhouse with was majorly into Rush and so I heard it quite a few times), Genesis - Duke (don't own but have heard), and Eloy - Colours. Also have heard Anyone's Daughter. I'm voting for Melt.

Interesting that you mention the German band Epitaph; they are not in the archives, though I think they should be. I am not familiar with the album "See you in Alaska", but I know their self-titled debut from 1971, "Stop Look and Listen" from 1972, "Outside the Law" from 1974, "Danger Man" from 1982 and their live album "The 21st Century Tour" from 2000.

Here the track "Early Morning" from their 1971 debut album:


They are in my opinion quite similar to the Norwegian band Titanic (who are in the archives).

Between Rush and Iron Maiden. I'm torn actually, but as I think the first 2 Maiden albums (with Paul Di'Anno) were their best (and I have a Maiden tattoo), I'm going for them.

I went for Iron Maiden's debut - they wnever got that good again. Less imlpressed with the Martin Birch-produced Killers they sound like Deep Purple) and TBH, while I like Dinckinson's voice, I can't get much in their stuff.

Civilian & ërmanent Waves are distant seconds on this list.



Surprised Epitath is not in the DB - their first two are definitely great, but I have no idea if they were still good by this time.

Drama, slightly above Duke and The Game. Moving Pictures and Black Sea are terrific both, but having listened to them much later, it's hard for me to compare. They just don't feel like part of 1980 to me.
