a bit random, for the fun of it, choose the one you enjoy the most, vote, leave a comment, you know what to do.
I left some out, maybe a second poll if you enjoy this!

^You don't really want us to answer that question...do you?
Went with Permanent Waves...perhaps my favorite Rush lp...and I'm not a huge Rush fan btw.
Gabriel close behind with Yes, Roxy , and Eloy.

The albums I know I've heard in full are Civilian (which was a disappointment compared to the first eight -- I bought GG"s whole discography in almost one fell swoop -- thought I was doing very well financially at the time), Peter Gabriel's Melt which I bought when searching for some specific music from, as it turns out, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway pre having internet (already loved Games Without Frontiers from Melt anyway), Rush's Permanent Waves (never owned but a friend of mine I shared a townhouse with was majorly into Rush and so I heard it quite a few times), Genesis - Duke (don't own but have heard), and Eloy - Colours. Also have heard Anyone's Daughter. I'm voting for Melt.

Interesting that you mention the German band Epitaph; they are not in the archives, though I think they should be. I am not familiar with the album "See you in Alaska", but I know their self-titled debut from 1971, "Stop Look and Listen" from 1972, "Outside the Law" from 1974, "Danger Man" from 1982 and their live album "The 21st Century Tour" from 2000.
Here the track "Early Morning" from their 1971 debut album:
They are in my opinion quite similar to the Norwegian band Titanic (who are in the archives).

Surely 1980 was a good year - I was born that year!

Between Rush and Iron Maiden. I'm torn actually, but as I think the first 2 Maiden albums (with Paul Di'Anno) were their best (and I have a Maiden tattoo), I'm going for them.

There is some really good stuff on here. I went with Duke, because I enjoy it as much as I did then as an excited 16 year old, but I could have gone for Melt, Heaven & Hell.

I went for Iron Maiden's debut - they wnever got that good again. Less imlpressed with the Martin Birch-produced Killers they sound like Deep Purple) and TBH, while I like Dinckinson's voice, I can't get much in their stuff.
Civilian & ërmanent Waves are distant seconds on this list.
Surprised Epitath is not in the DB - their first two are definitely
great, but I have no idea if they were still good by this time.
here is what tops my list and floats my boat for that year:

I'll give the vote to Rush. It was a very good year though. Yes, Sabbath, Genesis, Roxy Music, Maiden & PG all deserve their votes.

It's better than having three posts and no votes.
I'll post and not vote, mainly because I can't decide who to vote for with so many great albums to choose from.

..and an honoury mention to XTC for their album Black Sea. One of the best albums of 1980, and one of the best pop albums ever made.

(but I would delete the word pop)
I've voted for Rush but it could have been PG or Yes.

Nice list again! My favourites of these are Saga, Eloy, Peter Gabriel... but to be honest with myself I have to vote for Yes' Drama.

I'm Breaking the Law...Breaking the Law and voting against Rush. British Steel has sentimental value as it is the first record that I ever purchase with my own money.

Drama, slightly above Duke and The Game. Moving Pictures and Black Sea are terrific both, but having listened to them much later, it's hard for me to compare. They just don't feel like part of 1980 to me.

Went with Yes, followed by Genesis, Eloy, Rush, and Peter Gabriel. Nice selection.

Picked Melt from this list. Although my favourite from 1980 is probably Talking Heads' Remain in Light.

No Remain In Light. The one album I'd have had to think over had it been pitted against Permanent Waves.

Out of these I'll choose Queen - The Game.
I have other favourites from that year.
David Bowie - Scary Monsters
The Clash - Sandinista!
The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta
Talking Heads - Remain in Light
Or from Denmark: Kliché - Supertanker:

I only one I own is the Black Sabbath so I'll vote for that.
Much like Trane my personal favorites would be
Eskaton - 4 Visions
Zamla Mammaz Manna - Familjesprickor
Art Zoyd - Generation Sans Futur
Present - Triskaidekaphobie

I have a fondness for British Steel too. It was the first JP album I brought, although I much preferred Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith at the time, but these days British Steel is the album I go back to. You don't have to be old to be wise is an absolute classic!
