I go for ELP - Tarkus; Yes - Time & A Word and Genesis - Trespass - from this list.

I could possibly disagree there,ELP debut was possibly the better album than Tarkus.Just my personal preference.

3rd Impression... The questions is what's the best followup album. The first ELP album was a debut... Tarkus is a followup...
I, of course voted for Tarkus!

THIS IS ELP

For sheer progression, it has to be 'Trespass' for me too.
However, on a slightly different track, 'In The Wake Of Poseidon' by KC was one of the oddest follow-ups in that it was virtually identical in pacing/sound to ITCOTCK - listen to both of them side-by-side & you'll see what I mean.

Third Impression thinks ELP was better than Tarkus - Thus he shouldn't vote for Tarkus - But he will have done ! - This is the nonsense that ELP fans perpetuate - I MUST VOTE ELP, I MUST VOTE ELP (Repeat until your head falls off)...........
I would have voted for IQ (The wake) but for the fact that the improvement from Tales from the Lush Attic is less than that of Genesis Revelation.....Trespass,
TF and 3rd don't bother voting because we know that you see every poll as ELP Versus the Rest of prog.....It's getting tiresome.....

Indeedy Swinton!.. I guess that's the reason why I hate everything of ELP now.. (and ELP - ELP gives me a freaking headace!) really.. It really is irritating..
ARGH!
the only elp man I love - because of his widespread musictaste, his private has probably something more then just.. elp.. - is richardh..

Wheres 'Mirage' by Camel?? That was a great follow up album.
I voted for Fugazi by Marillion with some hesitation. I think Tarkus, Images and Words & Trespass were all excellent follow ups.

I was tempted to go for JT-Stand Up but I voted for Yes-Time and a Word. The reason being is that the jump onto the third album ( The Yes Album)was also sizeable.Whereas,IMHO,all the other bands in the poll gradually evolved.Yes went on in leaps and bounds. The same could be said of Genesis but Yes were still doing
cover versions. So my vote is also for their progression beyond the sophomore album.

GG - ATT. A huge leap forward towards the band's unique style and a
truly cracking listen. Pantagruel's Nativity is one of the purest most
perfect examples of what Progressive Rock really means.
...for me, anway.

Acquiring The Taste. Gentle Giant leaped to another level of
sophistication on this one at " the risk of being unpopular". I love
everything about this album the photo, the liner notes, the cover art
and of course the Music. Gentle Giant in it`s infancy. A foreshadow of
what was going to be heard from these guysin the coming years.
Classic progressive rock from the heyday of the genre.

I voted tarkus, Im not sure if its my favourite on the list, but i think its an improvment over ELP's first album, actually I think its the best thing ELP ever did.

I think that Van der Graaf Generator should have been included this poll (natch). The progression from 'Aerosol...'(orginally intended to be a Hammill solo album) to 'The Least We Can Do...' is very evident.
