Dance On A Volcano (Los Endos being second - but most songs on this album are equally good)

Squonk.

Love the keyboard riffs at the beginning and during the verses, and, I guess you can call it the chorus, (you don't stand a cha - a,a,a,a - a - ance). Simple, but brilliant!

(edit: sadly mistaken, that's Steve Hacket playing both riffs. Should have listened before posting!  )

I'm surprised that A trick of the tail does not get any votes. I think it is the fourth best song on the album.

I think maybe because it's only as high as the 4th best to everyone else

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

I'm surprised that you're surprised  . Listen to Banks' wonderful and totally original keyboard solo. And it's a very dreamy song. Not as intense as Dance On A Volcano maybe, but just totally beautiful.

I voted for Mad Man Moon, but like Gentle Giant's Octopus (I just voted in the poll about that album): this is again an album without any real weak tracks. Well, Squonk maybe, that is a track that isn't top quality in my ears, but it's not bad either and Collins' drums on it are fabulous.

Squonk was kind of a playful answer to Led Zeppelin's Kashmire. It is a piece of music embeded in that period of time.

Well, that certainly is an interesting point of view. How do you know?

I voted sqounk. The live version on Seconds Out is even better than the
studio version. Phil's voice is crystal clear and the sound is amazing.

Los endos. If it wasn't for W&W it would have been the Los Endos of their progressive phase, not just ATOTT. The end of the prog era was instead excellent Seconds Out.

I thought I'd ask you all - What is YOUR favorite song on the album?

Dalt99, soul brother, how can you say the album is only ok?

I could argue that Trick is the best Genesis studio album ever, esp since the Gabriel-era albums were all so badly recorded.

Agreed. That would be my last choice.

But it always does well in polls.

A Trick of the Tail was good, but I think Wind and Wuthering was a bit better, even despite the fact "Your Own Special Way" was on there....

Wuthering had more highs and lows. Tracks 1, 6, 7 and 8 are awesome, but the rest were ok or sucked.

Squonk is the track that first got me hooked on prog, 26 years ago!

I love epics, but since there are so many good songs here, I just can't decide. One of the best Genesis albums IMO.

I'll start by saying that at this point in time, "Trick..." is my favortie album ever, period.  IMO, it is second to SEbtP for Genesis' strongest record.  Phil Collins and co. show that it was the right time for PG to exit the group.

The thing that I really like about it is that each song works entirely on its own, so the album is like a book of fairy tales.  It's hard to explain it, but it really has a "magic sound" about it...I guess this has to do with the unique sound of Tony's keyboards/moogs, and the spectacular interplay between Banks and Hackett.  The other thing, is that when you listen to each song you think that it is the best on the album while it's on.  For instance, when Dance on a Volcano is playing, I'm thinking  "man, what an awesome song.....this must be the best on the cd.", and then comes Entangled and I have the same thought, and as each song comes, it ups the antie a little more until the spectacular Los Endos.  I even love the title track which many people think is weak.  The music and vocal arrangements do a perfect job of painting the picture that the lyrics describe, and this leads flawlessly into Los Endos, and when it finally comes to a close I want to listen to the whole thing again and again.

As for my favorite, I prefer the three slower songs for sentimental purposes.  Out of those I'll say 'Mad Man Mon', as it is the most beautiful song that I have ever heard.  Phil does such a great job on vocals, he was always excellent at softer, emotional songs.  Entangled comes in at second with the rest of the tracks close behind.  If only Steve would have stayed.......What could have been......

If you don't stand up
You don't stand a chance!
