That experiment is not true. Once you are born, your IQ doesn't change, though you may get brain damaged.

To listen to rap you must be dumb in the first place.

To listen to classical music you must be smart in the first place.

Solved.

I've enjoyed some rap, and found some classical music extremely banal...I guess that just means I got my graduate degrees due to pity or something, huh?

Yes! That's exactly it. To claim that any music makes you more intelligent is obviously rubbish, but your cultural habits reveal your intelligence. If you're stupid you naturally gravitate towards stupid cultural expressions, and if you're intelligent you naturally gravitate towards intelligent cultural expressions. Classical music is intelligent music, ergo: people who listen to it are intelligent. Your cultural habits reveal your intellect. To gauge someone's intellect all you have to do is: Check their bookshelves and check their music collection.

IQ tests do  not measure intelligence. They measure ability to pass IQ tests, which is pretty low on the list of essential survival skills for homo sapiens sapiens.

There does seem to be a correlation between people who believe that IQ actually means something and those who believe that one form of cultural expression is necessarily superior to another. I suspect that a lot of such individuals wear name tags at work and can't understand why their intrinsic superiority over the rest of humanity hasn't been recognised.

That's what I log on for - the kind of repartee you got at the Cafe Royal when Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Shaw were holding court

I don't know about the Cafe Royal, but it does sound a lot like Tennesee Williams and Truman Capote.
