Topic: Trick of the Tail - Genesis Posted: June 28 2005 at 02:41 |
I just got this cd and have been listening to it for a couple days. I can't seem to choose my favorite song. Overall, the album is not as good as their earlier music though it's not as bad as I expected (for some reason)
I thought I'd ask you all - What is YOUR favorite song on the album?

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

I voted for Mad Man Moon, but like Gentle Giant's Octopus (I just voted in the poll about that album): this is again an album without any real weak tracks. Well, Squonk maybe, that is a track that isn't top quality in my ears, but it's not bad either and Collins' drums on it are fabulous.

Mad man moon, just ahead of Ripples and Entangled (all 10/10 songs).
Although overall I much prefer Gabriel-era, this album is an absolute gem, easily in my all-time top 10 albums of any genre.

I'm suprised people like Mad Man Moon so much! I voted Los Endos. It would have been Dance On a Volcano if it wasn't for the naff fast bit ast the end, where they barely manage to play it properly.

That is the worst bit of the song, I agree, but they dont appear to be struggling with it IMO. It was just a naff ending.

I remember an interview at the time, talking to Banks I think, when he said(something like) that they werent e very good band at playing fast, and he singled out the ending of "Volcano" as a case in point. Ever since that, everytime I listen to it, I hear what he means!

Hah! Now that is funny. I am glad they didn't play fast anyway. Not their style!

Robbery, Assault and Bater-reeeee!
A Trick of the Tail was good, but I think Wind and Wuthering was a bit better, even despite the fact "Your Own Special Way" was on there....

Actually, more I listen to it, I think TotT may be better than Lamb Lies Down...
At least more consistant.

Squonk was kind of a playful answer to Led Zeppelin's Kashmire. It is a piece of music embeded in that period of time.

At first, dance on a volcano, but then I listend to it too much, and it became Ripples, but then after relistening to it a couple of times today, it probably is Entangled. It made me laugh how some of their tones sounds dated today!

'Ripples' is simply the most beautiful song the band ever recorded- the instrumental middle section is prog rock at its absolute peak, and the link back to the lyrics is just sublime.

For me, it's Entangled, just narrowly over Mad Mad Moon ...

I think it's difficult to decide, because its just a quality album throughout... though I've gone with Dance On A Volcano, followed by Los Endos.
