I've always thought the term "Krautrock" to be quite insulting and derogatory, so I feel the same way for these terms (that I'd never heard before) as well. Do Germans refer to themselves as "Krauts"? French as "frogs"? Muslems as "towel heads"? Vietnamese as "gooks"? Japanese as "Japs" or "Nips"? Indians as "wogs"? I'm glad for PA's decision to recognize Rock Progressivo Italiano in its own term (despite the fact that it is considered a style, not a national movement, and, therefore, not inclusive to all Italian artists). The imperious naming of all things in British (or American) English has never felt right with me as I know I'd feel irked if people insisted in referring to my familiar place names in foreign tongues: like "Nueva York" for New York or "D'étroit" for Detroit, or Mee-ah-mee for Miami, or "Chee-ca-go" and "Mitchigan" for Chicago and Michigan, respectively. Exit: Peking, Bombay, Abyssinia, Munich, Cologne, Danzig, Byzantium, Switzerland, Vienna, Florence, Siam, Egypt, Hungary, Cambodia, Netherlands, Spain, et al.; replace them with their real native language names. Why can't the English-speaking peoples of the world honor native names and their pronunciations? Edited by BrufordFreak - January 09 2025 at 08:30 |

When I see "Italian Prog albums" I am thinking progressive rock/metal albums released by Italian bands, and just the classic RPI ones and I hope I am getting this right! With this in mind, here's a list of twelve bands with their favorite albums of mine in no particular order: Kingcrow - The Persistence Fleshgod Apocalypse - Agony Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra Banco - Io Sono Nato Libero PFM - Storia di Un Minuto Arti e Mestieri - Tilt Daal - Decalogue of Darkness Le Orme - Collage LogoS - Sadako e le Mille Gru di Carta Semiramis - Dedicato a Frizz La Maschera di Cera - Le Porte del Domani Goblin - Profondo Rosso

I adore Italian prog. I own over 400 Italian prog albums, divided in half between the pre-2000 and the 21st century.
I feel modern Italian prog masterpieces are as good as the golden 1970s. It's a photo finish.

Wow! That's a very big Italian Prog collection, I'd say. I adore Italian Prog as well, and sometimes I get even the thought that the Italian Prog is the one I can enjoy very most.

I only allowed one album per band, so a handful of favorites are admittedly missing. But still I needed (at least) 20 spots:
Arti & Mestieri - Tilt (Immagini per un orecchio) Area - Arbeit Macht Frei Premiata Forneria Marconi - Storia di un Minuto Dedalus - Dedalus Picchio Dal Pozzo - Picchio Dal Pozzo Le Orme - Collage Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso Campo Di Marte - Campo di Marte Biglietto per l'Inferno - Biglietto per l'Inferno Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra Pierrot Lunaire - Gudrun Goblin - Profondo Rosso Celeste - Celeste (Principe di un giorno) Senastion's Six - Portable Madness Franco Leprino - Integrati ... Disintegrati Perigeo - Genealogia Il Balletto di Bronzo - Ys Automat - Automat Battiato - Pollution Zauber - Il Sogno |

I need to listen more but so far these are the ones I know and like the best:
PFM - Per Un Amico Banco - Same (first album) Il Baletto Di Bronzo - YS Alphataurus - Same Semiramis - Dedicato D' A Fraaz Le Orme - Serona E Felona Banco - Di Terra (don't currently own it) New Trolls - Concerto Grosso Number 1 (don't currently own it) PFM - Storia Di Un Minuto Logos - Sadako e le Mille gru di carta (as good as most classic RPI albums imo) Maxophone - Same I need to become more familiar with others. I was a bit disappointed with the first Biglietto Per L'Inferno but it's still good.
