For whatever it's worth, under the Rush page in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame the first line on the band reads as such:
"Rush are one of the most popular, innovative prog bands of all time." They are one of five bands in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that are in as a progressive rock band, with Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes and the Moody Blues being the others. As far as the Hall is concerned, several prog bands Jethro Tull, King Crimson, ELP, Kansas and Supertramp are far more deserving to be in the Hall than many of the bands that went in before them. I think of the newer generation of prog bands Dream Theater, Tool and Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson should get in if there was any justice. I know Radiohead, which on PA is listed as a Crossover Prog band is in the Hall. But, it appears to me that the Hall doesn't consider them a Prog band. They look at Radio head as more an experimental, alternative rock band. Edited by Big Sky - December 28 2024 at 12:22 |

^ The Hall Of Fame is as useless as say Apple's top 100 albums of all time. Even by their standards, not having Tull in is very weird. Who did Ian Anderson upset this time? (Everyone I guess lol)

Btw, that's a good way to think about it, except from, it may not be about Progressive Rock but progressive music. |

In general, not so few of PA's "sub-genres" make definitely most sense to me when considered as sub-categories of progressive music, while Eclectic Prog is quite fine with me. I think of it as similar to RYM's tag "Progressive Rock", which is the only one RYM use for Progressive Rock albums that can't be classified by one of RYM's Prog sub-genres. |

Anyway, personally, I'm sorry to say that I don't think of Rush as anything to be very proud of as a progger. Edited by David_D - December 30 2024 at 09:37 |

Having signed in to PA to pose the question and then signed out just 2 minutes later, Jeeglefun is probably laughing at us all endlessly debating whether or not Rush is prog.

Interesting that a newbie such as yourself knows more than I do about PA's inner workings and "legends". |
