^ It's all about Getting the Balance Right and the one synth artist we do share a love of is Depeche Mode, having featured them recently in my Synth Britannia blog. Smile

DEPECHE MODE      A Synth-Pop phenomenon (see video below) who breathed New Life into the genre. I Just Can't Get Enough of Depeche Mode, whose songs and lyrics were often as enigmatic as The Meaning of Love itself. In the notoriously tough music business where Everything Counts when it comes to the bottom line, Depeche Mode somehow managed to Get the Balance Right between catchy pop songs and intelligent Music for the Masses, arguably reaching their peak with their acclaimed Violator album in 1990. Throughout the 1980's, there was barely time to Enjoy the Silence, with one Depeche Mode hit record after another, which was almost enough to make Stock, Aitken & Waterman jealous. It's A Question of Time whether any Synth-Pop band will ever manage to repeat the success of Depeche Mode in the future, but I somehow doubt it, when modern electropop and indietronica bands can only Dream On of ever achieving Some Great Reward of similar fame and fortune. Smile

^^ When it comes to polling, I tend to stick to what I know and like, so I'll have to leave a future Synth World series of polls in your capable hands as most of those genres and artists you mentioned are well out of my comfort zone. Smile

Was trying to have a bit of fun will all those subgenres of Synth (plus the one I made up of course). Just thought you might be entertained to see them -- not that it is entertaining, but thought we maybe could have some fun with it if coming up with some silly ones of our own. Not something I'd expect of you as I said. If I did one now or as a series I'd rather do one that is simply called "Electronic" as a very broad category. I like a huge variety of electronic music, progressive and otherwise. I likely will wait until after you do your poll (I like it when topics reinforce each other in a way by having related ones) and would avoid covering the same names.
For all I knew, Synthwave, Vaporwave, Spacesynth, Dungeon Synth, Neuro Funk, Electro Disco, Skweee (Skweeeze My Lemon), Drill and bass, Acid techno Funktronica, Horror Synth, Synth Punk & SynthShockTherapy could have all been genuine bona fide music genres. Well, maybe not Skweeeze My Lemon. Tongue
