I'm happy to see more thoughtful polls and lists from Paul or anyone else, especially from those who take the time to engage with others who comment on their polls. I especially like those that focus on personal favourites, but the researched one can be very good too when approached with a positive and a open-eared/minded attitude.

I like Paul's polls. One of the main reasons that I interact with PA is Paul's posts.

Thanks Cindy. That's good to know. One of the prime reasons we interact here is through the PA polls, so I'll keep them coming, and on that note, Prog Rock Timeline 2014 is coming up tomorrow with another 25 albums to choose from.

Looking forward to the fusion polls and I'll pay special attention to his two star offerings.

I could manage maybe 354 polls a year, but 354 polls a day!?? And someone's actually voted for that option too.

It looks like I'll have to avoid Ornette Coleman's albums then if I'm going to avoid including any two star offerings.

Can we have a Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry poll?

Very rarely do I simply vote in a Prog Poll here without commenting the reasoning behind my choice. B) This time however I voted "less polls" cuz I think there's a bit of an oversaturation of Paul's Polls here lately.
I don't really like what some people do here that is: just telling what they voted on in the most dry and bland way possible and then adding a completely non-sequitur filler slogan with random words at the end.

Hi,
No complaints, and I'm glad that Paul does this ... PA really needs one person to do just this ... all day ... it shows an appreciation for music that is very different and rare. When added to Andrea's and DamoX's postings this shows a much wider love and understanding for things, than just monthly list, or a yearly list, although folks are replying really nicely to a lot of the monthly/new stuff listed, which is neat.
Well done Paul

I never feel comfortable just posting a word, and so the filler from me could be taken as gibberish at times -- often some might say. As for Ken of the progorycteropodidae, I have a big appreciation for him. I have found that he's a caring person who has much of interest to say, as well as repetitive random rubbish. Many of us are eccentric in our own ways and we should learn to not just adapt ourselves to the crowd but adapt to individuals, in my opinion (this is like some social experiment). Although I would rather those stay in the Just For Fun forum, I accept that people here have their quirks and it does differentiate his posts from others for good or ill. Tact and tolerance is a good thing commonly. I appreciate him despite the poop that aardvarks are wont to leave behind, prog or otherwise.

I don't blame you. But yeah, that's exactly how I see that sorta behavior. Taking a poop and leaving without cleaning up the mess.

Hi,
That's the hard part or it all ... someone with blue/green balls posting that the artistry for the progressive website is a drag, and probably not realising that it is a show of so many bands that we love dearly ... which kinda states that such a fan, is not a fan of the music at all, otherwise he would recognize many of the little details in the work, and appreciate them ... but the issue might be that he does not see anything that he/she likes in the past 20/25 years ... and then, yeah ... one would think that an update would be nice and needed, but the artist sort of disappeared ... and I guess he has just now surfaced from his big sleep.
The weirdness, and sometimes hippocrisy, is that such a fan that "loves music" would not be criticising things that are older, since Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky and many others are also "MUSIC" and deserve the respect. It's just weird, that some "fans" do not know this is an art ... not some bubble gum that you can chew and then chuck!
It would be nice to see the artistry continue ... for its lifetime, but these days, with the nature and ways of the internet, it looks like "talent" only exists for a nighttime ... and is gone the next morning. Which sadly, is not how the arts have lived for hundreds of years, but it might be a way to separate the ones that mean it, and the ones that don't care ... but sadly, this means that we will never again will catch, and see, another Grateful Dead band ... that gave it away, and became one of the richest ever, while also having the best sound system of them all!
PS: A side bar here ... my own sister, lives in Paris and has done art shows in more than 50 locations all over Europe in her time, and now reaching her 60's, in Paris (where she has been for 40+ years), she still has to have a side job ... and has not done an art show in sometime. Art, for her, is now a sort of private thing for herself, and screw the public side of it. And it's hard to criticize that when you see someone try so hard for so long, only to still be empty and having to collect peanuts to make a daily meal and keep a roof over her head. Something here is not right, but everyone will always assume that she doesn't care anymore, and her stuff is just as good as ever, just not appreciated ... because it doesn't have the "look" and the "feel" of the current style!

Why not throw them all in together by including albums by Brian Eno, Eddie Jobson, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera & John Wetton too, in something like a Proxy Music series of polls.

Linda Thompson. All her songs are sung by guest vocalists as she is unable to sing anymore. I think it was just released last week?
It could have been worse, she could have attempted to spoof the Countrylife album cover!

Yes, and it could have been even worse than that if they'd put Johnny Rotten on the cover advertising Country Life butter.

Now, the obvious answer to this poll question isn't listed: Paul does what he wants to do at the rhythm he chooses to be fine. Nobody has the obligation to participate, but it is sometimes fun to participate...

Okay, here's my initial list of British Post Punk bands, which I have to somehow narrow down to 25 poll options. I know it's a bit Irish of me to have included U2 in a poll of British bands, but they're just too good to leave out.
Bauhaus
Cocteau Twins
Elvis Costello & the Attractions
Comsat Angels
The Cult
The Cure
Durutti Column
Echo & the Bunnymen
The Fall
Gang of Four
The Jam
Jesus & Mary Chain
Joy Division
Killing Joke
Magazine
Modern English
New Model Army
New Order
Orange Juice
The Police
The Proclaimers
Psychedelic Furs
Simple Minds
Siouxsie & the Banshees
Sisters of Mercy
The Smiths
Squeeze
Talking Heads
Teardrop Explodes
U2
Wire
XTC

^ A great list!
The only suggestion I would have for any additions is 'The Comsat Angels'.

Great Suggestion! Comsat Angels are now on the list too, which makes 32 Post Punk bands in total, which I have to somehow Squeeze down to 25 poll options.

I would have wanted to include Wire, amongst others. 154 being one of my favourite albums.
By the way, I know David Byrne was born in Scotland and then moved to the US (as a child of 8 or 9) -- I always thought of Talking Heads as a US band, founded in New York.

Of course I'm not saying you should, and I may be repeating myself (if so, blame the brain and my laziness not looking back through the thread) but I'd like to see some polls or a poll from you (could be a one or two off) where you cover one album by artist/band just focusing on your favourite acts and a particular favourite album from each act. Maybe favourite or two albums from each of your poll series and or blogs as you have done quite a few and that could be super eclectic.
By the way, it's a rare member who might get a topic like this done about them and such favourable response in the votes (one commonly gets a few negative nancies no matter what the topic even if they have no opinion in my experience). That's a lot of appreciation.

I think Wire's first three albums are terrific:
Pink Flag (1977)
Chairs Missing (1978)
154 (1979)
I
might do one based on albums, and not nationality -- there are some crazy cats
from Japan (nekophilia alert) and great stuff from the US like Pere Ubu and Television, and Vanacouver where I come from was a big punk town. I might cover
various post-punky and pronky ones. Not mentioned by you, from the UK I
like This Heat, Camberwell Now, Cardiacs, Public Image Ltd, Wire as I
said....

Dio should not be in the list.
If one puts Phenomena here (Glenn Hughes sang on three albums if i remember right, and only the debut on all the songs), Glenn sang and performed on a ton of bands, should all be mentioned?!
I think his albums as a solo artist should be enough.

Fair enough, I'll swap Joe Satriani for Cozy Powell, seeing as he's played in more rock bands than you can shake a drumstick at, including Phenomena, Rainbow & Whitesnake.
