...And I think there's plenty of experiments - and even more rocking out to be found. But of course experimenting will eventually experiment you out of any given genre. Just like a Symphonic Prog band who simply love to experiment and do it all the time, will end up not being Symphonic Prog anymore.

I think some of these may straddle the line between post and psych or jazz but I think they are in line with what the thread is asking for

You might try this:  Its kind of like a fusion of Jazz and Post Rock, but perhaps a little more upbeat than your average; in any case, just a really good album:
