Just a quickie poll. I was going to include some lives but then decided against it. One might argue that Coda does not belong, but I am including it. So with that for nine Led Zep studio albums, I also just wanted to cover the first nine studio albums by Rush. This is not multiple votes. Choose one that you like from the poll.
I'm feeling Houses of the Holy or Physical Graffiti now, and am going with the latter. |

Very easy decision for me...
Permanent Waves Indeed, Rush albums would complete the top 5 here; I simply prefer their music over Zep's...

This is a tough one, I could vote for half of these.

Honestly, I cannot choose one over the others. Depending on the mood I'm in, I could go choose any of them.

I commonly choose based on my current mood, and even then it often feels very arbitrary.

Hemispheres gets my vote today.
The mood could change to something else tomorrow.

^ Had I gone with Rush, then Hemispheres would have got my vote.

I'd imagine here, you're going to find most forum member will chose predominantly Zep or Rush depending on their personal preference as they are very different bands?
As I think I said in another thread recently, I haven't had the urge to listen to any Sabbath, Purple, Heep or Zep for many years now, whereas Rush like Yes and Genesis will always continue to get an airing even though I've also been listening to them for 40+ years.

Farewell to Kings and Physical graffiti are my two favourites here really because they were my first exposure to both bands as a spotty, denim cut-off wearing teenager in the 70's

Not very different bands when one considers early Rush which was heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. I got into both during my 80s teenage years, but Led Zeppelin is the one that has stayed with me more. That said, I rarely play either these days. And most of what I am into now I discovered or delved into decades later. Many seem more nostalgic than I in terms of still wanting to play the music they liked in their youths, and that is often part because of the associations. I'm more excited bay acts I discovered recently than what I have known for 40 years. Personal preference of course is what this is about. I generally prefer Led Zeppelin, but I prefer some Rush to Led Zeppelin. I would take Hemispheres over Presence, for instance, and lots of Rush over Coda. |

^ It's the other way 'round with me, where Led Zeppelin and Rush completely passed me by in the 1970's & 80's and it's only since joining ProgArchives that I've become a belated fan of both bands.

Moving Pictures is on top of my ranking.
4 stars and up: Moving Pictures > Hemispheres > Permanent Waves >= Signals > Houses of the Holy > Caress of Steel > A Farewell to Kings Note: I am not familiar with some of the LZ albums. LZ III and side one of IV are fine (side two leaves me cold) and Carouselambra is one of my favourite LZ songs. Edited by someone_else - August 29 2024 at 15:34 |

^^ I am one of the rarities it seems who loves In Through the Out Door, even if it particularly for "Carousulembra". It still does excite me after all these years.
I was biggest on Led Zep while in Grade 9 and 10, and loved to play Zepp, Hendrix, and Cream on my Walkman while walking to school. Now I am feeling nostalgic. Edited by Logan - August 28 2024 at 15:29 |

Who doesn't love "All My Love," especially with that nifty synth solo by JPJ! |

^ "All of My Love" is indeed a terrific track. JPJ is a big reason why I really love various Led Zeppelin music.

I recall that some have been surprised with what music you had not been familiar with before joining PA before. If one has been into classic rock, both Led Zeppelin and Rush have been radio staples here for ages. Where I live, I would be bound to hear music by both bands over the years even if I had never got into either. The same friend got me listening to both bands (Rush a year or two later), although I did not get into Rush to the same extent. And then by the 90s I had mostly moved on to other things. |
