So I plan to put this poll up in the next few days. Any more? If we don;t have more than one choice from all who participated, then I will put one per person in the first part of the poll, and then the others as bonuses. There are I think 24 right now, but if more people participate (and those with fewer entries add more, I will try to fairly even-ish out the number of entries per person for the list. If there are no more, say, then five of mine will be included as bonuses with Beth Gibbons as my "official" prime nominee (a good representative of my tastes).

EDIT: Here is that list again, did I miss anything:

Logan
Beth Gibbons "Floating on a Moment" (my #1)
Eunuch "Gnome and Fortune"
St. Vincent "All Born Screaming"
Tapir! "Mountain Song"
The Smile "Bending Hectic"
Julia Holter "Something in the Room She Moves"

TheGazzardian
Still House Plants "M M M"
Solar "Blues"
Torres "Collect"
Blackbriar "Moonflower"
Leprous "Atonement"

mathman0806
William Shatner "Elephants and Termites"
IDLES "Jungle" (From TANGK) (George's #1)
Ghost Funk Orchestra "Nova"
Ghost Funk Orchestra "Totality (Crown-Lite Dub)"
Mdou Moctar "Imouhar"

suitkees
Orange Blossom "Mawj" (Kees #1)
Aquaserge "Sommets"

Lewian
Adult Jazz "Marquee"
Barbara Morgenstern "Die Liebe zur Sache"

Nogbad_The_Bad
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum "Burn Into Light"

Cristi
Sgàile "Ptarmigans Cry"

Richardh
Melvins "She's Got Weird Arms"
Bat For Lashes "The Dream of Delphi"

Frets N Worries
The Decemberists "Burial Ground"

MikeEnRegalia
Ihsahn "The Distance Between Us"
Caligula's Horse "Stormchaser"
DarWin "Be That Man"

For people with more than one, if you could verify your top pick and second if more than two...

Sounds good to me. Other then Julia Holter there is nothing else that pops up in my mind, now.
My top pick is Orange Blossom; Aquaserge the next...

Sounds good Greg. My top pick will be IDLES "Jungle". I might substitute one of the Ghost Funk Orchestra tracks to avoid two from the same band.

A longer one, "Joan in the Garden" by The Decemberists, if we're going shorter tracks, "Burial Ground" works as well

Yeah, under about ten minutes ideally. I love music by the Decemberists (I have The Crane Wife and The Hazards of Love -- great albums), but have yet to hear the newest.

This is a fine nomination.

And listening to "Joan in the Garden" for my own pleasure now. Very good stuff!

Hi,

I have to do some listening ... don't want to be like some others than only listen to three things and vote for them and leave the rest behind.

Hopefully I can get this done before this whole thing is closed down ...

Who are "the others" that only listen to three things and ignore the rest? More baseless accusations... Ouch
Nobody will close down this poll. Take your time and listen to all the songs and vote for three of them.

Ihsahn - The Distance Between Us. Opeth with a twist (and an orchestra).

Caligula's Horse - Stormchaser. Just beautiful.

DarWin - Be That Man. Surprisingly heavy, everything fits.

Hi,

Wonder why some folks take this personally? If it doesn't fit you, why bother responding? It wouldn't be you for sure ... it's not meant to sound like everyone does not listen, which obviously is not true, but the response by those who (supposedly) listen to it all (hahaha!!!!) ... is kind of amusing.

At least I admitted I had not listened to a lot of things and needed to catch up ...

For the record: I do not have the time to listen to all the tracks/videos listed here. But I have not, and will not, claim to have done so, unless that is actually the case. Smile

Generally participants have been really good about listening to the selections before voting in these interactive polls and some would comment on every selection. The regulars have all been diligent that way, but sometimes we have had people vote or enter the nominations without following the guidelines, which is no biggie.

There will be no expectation to listen to all when voting, I just ask people to check out one from each suggestor in the first section of the poll (one need not listen the whole way through but it is suggested). the way I plan to organise it is.

Here again are those that have been suggested (which is 28 in total if I got it right)

Logan
Beth Gibbons "Floating on a Moment" (my #1)
Eunuch "Gnome and Fortune"
St. Vincent "All Born Screaming"
Tapir! "Mountain Song"
The Smile "Bending Hectic"
Julia Holter "Something in the Room She Moves"

TheGazzardian
Still House Plants "M M M"
Solar "Blues"
Torres "Collect"
Blackbriar "Moonflower"
Leprous "Atonement"

mathman0806
William Shatner "Elephants and Termites"
IDLES "Jungle" (From TANGK) (George's #1)
Ghost Funk Orchestra "Nova"
Ghost Funk Orchestra "Totality (Crown-Lite Dub)"
Mdou Moctar "Imouhar"

suitkees
Orange Blossom "Mawj" (Kees #1)
Aquaserge "Sommets"

Lewian
Adult Jazz "Marquee"
Barbara Morgenstern "Die Liebe zur Sache"

Nogbad_The_Bad
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum "Burn Into Light"

Cristi
Sgàile "Ptarmigans Cry"

Richardh
Melvins "She's Got Weird Arms"
Bat For Lashes "The Dream of Delphi"

Frets N Worries
The Decemberists "Burial Ground"

MikeEnRegalia
Ihsahn "The Distance Between Us"
Caligula's Horse "Stormchaser"
DarWin "Be That Man"

--------------------

And I plan to organise it in sections. The first post has the top chosen pick (or only pick) from each contributor. Those I ask people to please listen through. Then we have two bonus sections: The first has people's (not all did) second pick (to honour those with two or more), and the third has others for those who listed more than two. So this is what I had in mind. I want to keep it fair because different people have different numbers of mentions.

Official Top Picks Section (expected listening and voting for two or three choices):

Beth Gibbons "Floating on a Moment"
Still House Plants "M M M" (is that the number one nomination?)
IDLES "Jungle"
Orange Blossom "Mawj"
Adult Jazz "Marquee"
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum "Burn Into Light"
Sgàile "Ptarmigans Cry"
Melvins "She's Got Weird Arms"
The Decemberists "Burial Ground"
Ihsahn - The Distance Between Us

------------------

Bonus One (for number two picks as nominations): Vote for up to two choices

Eunuch "Gnome and Fortune"
Solar "Blues"
Ghost Funk Orchestra "Nova" (that okay as number two choice?)
Aquaserge "Sommets"
Barbara Morgenstern "Die Liebe zur Sache"
Bat For Lashes "The Dream of Delphi"
Caligula's Horse "Stormchaser"

------------------------------------

Bonus Two (for those third choices - vote for one)

Julia Holter "Something in the Room She Moves"
Torres "Collect"
William Shatner "Elephants and Termites" ?
DarWin "Be That Man"

Bonus Three (for those fourth choices - vote for one)
St. Vincent "All Born Screaming"
Blackbriar "Moonflower"
Mdou Moctar "Imouhar"

Bonus Four (the others, fifth or sixth mentions -- mention fave in a post)
The Smile "Bending Hectic" or Tapir! "Mountain Song", Leprous "Atonement", Ghost Funk Orchestra "Totality (Crown-Lite Dub)"

You get the idea, so in four sections, only the first one being "required". And I ask all to list their votes in a post. I will add a playlist to this topic soon with the choices in the order above unless more people add choices, people ask for changes.... This is not set in stone but what I had been planning to fairly accommodate people with different numbers of suggestions and not make it onerous on those who, say, only listed one to listen.

I am good with how my suggestions are placed. You can drop the last Ghost Funk Orchestra track to make room for other suggestions.

If the guidelines for the poll are as such, then I'll certainly try. Listening to 24 tracks will at least require 90 minutes, it's easier said than done (20 years ago, as a single IT professional with no children, it would have been no problem at all). LOL

It's much easier with the sections. In order to vote properly I'd need to listen to all candidates in one session, which should be possible under an hour now Smile

^ Absolutely.

Official Nominees - Expected Listening and Voting (please try to listen to these 10 and vote for two or three)

1. Beth Gibbons "Floating on a Moment"
2. Still House Plants "M M M"
3. IDLES "Jungle"
4. Orange Blossom "Mawj"
5. Barbara Morgenstern "Die Liebe zur Sache"
6. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum "Burn Into Light"
7. Sgàile "Ptarmigans Cry"
8. Melvins "She's Got Weird Arms"
9. The Decemberists "Burial Ground"
10. Ihsahn - The Distance Between Us

------------------------------------

Bonus #1 Selections - Optional (for number two picks as nominations - can vote for up to two of these "bonus" choices)

11. Eunuch "Gnome and Fortune"
12. Solar "Blues"
13. Ghost Funk Orchestra "Nova"
14. Aquaserge "Sommets"
15. Adult Jazz "Marquee"
16. Bat For Lashes "The Dream of Delphi"
17. Caligula's Horse "Stormchaser"

------------------------------------

Bonus Selections #2 - Optional (for those third suggestions - can vote for one of these bonuses)

18: Julia Holter "Something in the Room She Moves"
19. Torres "Collect"
William Shatner "Elephants and Termites" (not in youtube playlist)
20. DarWin "Be That Man"

------------------------------------

Bonus Selections #3 - Optional (for those fourth indidividal suggestions - can vote for one of these bonuses)

21. St. Vincent "All Born Screaming"
22. Blackbriar "Moonflower"
23. Mdou Moctar "Imouhar"

-------------------------------------

Bonus Selections #4 - Optional (the others, fifth or sixth mentions -- mention your fave of these bonuses in a post if desired)

24: Tapir! "Mountain Song" or The Smile' "Bending Hectic
25. Leprous "Atonement"

Here is the youtube playlist (minus Shat):

And here is Shatner:

--------------------------------------------

For myself, if choosing between Tapir's and The Smile, love The Smile but likely would leave that off due to its knownness (but those are totally optional for listening and voting as are all bonus ones).

--------------------------------------------

I plan to put the poll up tomorrow. I only really "expect" the first ten to be listened to, voted for, and mentioned in a post from participants, but I do really appreciate people who check out the rest (and vote and comment). If it's too much for any of you, it's not a big deal to me (happy for what level of participation people can manage in this group activity).

There is still time to make any changes and for other people to add their own. It's easy to amend the list. Thanks to all who participated -- a cracking year thus far, imo.
