This was a quite pleasant listen! A great and diverse line-up indeed. I already wanted to vote last weekend, but I found the ranking extremely difficult, once again. So after repeated listening I have decided to give my votes to the following acts:

The Bonus 2's:

Go Go Machine Orchestra: A percussion-based hypnotic collage of music and sound. Fresh and really cool!

Radian: A fusion of rock, jazz and electronic music. Experimental, captivating but also a pleasant listen.

Sufjan Stevens: He appears in various end-of-the-year music charts, but I don't really know much of his music tbh. It’s about time to catch up!

The Number One or Sole Picks:

Aksak Maboul: Their piece is part of a suite, in the form of a so-called "Singspiel", a musical drama. A poetic, playful and truly original piece of art.

Voyou: Probably currently one of the best French indie pop acts. Easy-going but rich in sound, accompanied by simple and very nice poetic lyrics. This guy is doing all by himself which I find remarkable.

Pixie Ninja and OGIVES. Both are interesting in their own way, but I found it difficult to choose between the two. So, since George got my vote for Go Go Machine Orchestra already (my favourite of his) my third vote in this category will go to OGIVES.

Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated as always! A big thank you goes out to Greg for organising this poll! Clap

^ Thanks so much, Mila. And big thanks for your comments on your picks. All of your choices were amongst my favourites of a strong list, and I really liked your selections for the topic. You do have a remarkable knack for picking music.

I'm reminded that I should try listening to some of these albums properly, especially before the deadline for the Album of the Year list especially I am interested in that for both the in PA and out of PA choices (too late now to add some acts....). I am going to put on the Canned Dream album as I prepare things for my son's birthday party. He turns 17 today, and was not even conceived when I joined this site. While he is totally self-taught, if he's okay with it, I might share some of his piano compositions at some time. I am one very proud dad.

Anyway, thanks to all for your contributions to this topic. It's been a very enjoyable one for me. I love the communal aspects of us sharing music we appreciate, listening to each other's music choices, and the appreciation that comes through from people for other's choices. I think this series conceptually comes closest to my Utopian music community ideals at PA. And very good to see you again, Lorenzo, long may these live. And I hope someone else comes up with one soon. I'm already itching to do another one, lol, but it would be better if it was someone else.

I am toying around with the idea of doing an interactive poll on the violin (incl. string sections). Does that sound good?

@Christian Come on, let's do this! Is it about strings only or would violin/strings in a leading role be ok too? The latter might allow more musical diversity.

I'm glad you liked my music selection! I was a bit late and didn't have much time to think about it.- Belated happy birthday to your son! How was the party? I hope he gives his permission and we get the chance to hear his piano compositions soon!

You mentioned those Album of the Year lists, are  you referring to PA? If so, where can I find them?- Thanks again for reviving the IA-polls, I am a big fan! :)

The party was great. We prepared the food, set tables, and otherwise stayed out of the way. He has excellent friends and a super girlfriend. I hope he's okay with sharing.

This is the topic I was referring to in the Top 10's and Lists PA forum: PA Album of 2023 Open to Members: Jan 31 deadline CLICK

Be great if you find the time to list some.

^ Thank you for the link, Greg! Good to know the survey is now also open to members. Since the deadline is round the corner I will follow the thread for now. I see many familiar names which may make it easier for me to join the discussion.- I'm glad you all enjoyed the party. It's great to have parents who are so welcoming and openminded! :)

^ Up to you, of course, but I would encourage people to post even a few releases that they like from this year even if it is after the official deadline. And that list can include any album you like from this year regardless of whether it is Prog or not. Doesn't mean it will be counted for the contest, but it still counts to me. Because of the way it is listed through the awesomeprog site., it is not static. Next year hopefully we will find a way to get the word out to more Prog Archives registrants with plenty of time so we can get even more participation (might lead to various people joining too in expectation). That said, especially since we got started a bit late, it has been very successful in terms of participation. Mike did a great job with this.
