Sorted through to find additional "regular" entries, here are my takes on those: Christian: Radian: “Skyskryp12” Experimental electronica here Goes back and forth from blips and waaahhhs
to almost but not quite melody, played on vibes. Some electric guitar wanders in and about. This generally keeps going throughout the
piece, with occasional zipper-like noises and some bomps of percussion. The electric guitar swoops in and out, almost
like it’s in a different distorted room than this piece is, but once in a
while, someone opens the door and lets some of it drift in. Intensifies about 5/8ths in. The payoff of being patient is nice, they
apparently finally invited the guitarist in, and the drums become more intense,
ending with almost a gong-like crescendo. PAGE 4 Samuel: Voyou
“Huis Clos” Very French, upbeat
ditty. Sound very summery to me, summer
on the beach although the video shows a placid streamside. Wonder what he’s musing about, since I don’t
speak French. There is a nice horn section
that comes along, the bridge seems as though it maybe isn’t as peaceful in his
mind (perhaps echoing the visual of the bridge in the video, with a stand of
dark trees next to it. Nice song, it has also a cinematic quality to it. I find
I’m right, here is a translation in English to the lyrics: https://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Voyou-1/Huis-clos/translation/english PAGE 5 Hrychu: ERA
“Amena” This is quite beautiful, are
they singing in Latin, perhaps? Could be
Italian? I looked up the band name and
find that th ais is the work of a single composer from France, and the composer
often uses an imaginary language, similar to Latin. Extra points!
They describe him as being “New Age,” a genre of which I’m not overly
fond, as it’s too sweet/preachy to me in general. I dol like music that blends some of those
elements, though. But… it’s not from
this past year? Anyway, I do love the
music regardless. My kind of stuff! |

^ Do you have any track choices to share from 2023? You can share in the thread without participating in the listening and voting if you don't want to fully participate. IT;s nice to get a wider variety of people sharing music even if some are more casual and not joining in on the poll itself.

Here again is the suggestions playlist: And the incomplete nominations playlist: This is going to be really tough to choose, as I genuinely love so many that people have mentioned. Still time for others to join should they so desire. Thanks to all. I listened to all, and it's been a joy. And Samuel, I really like your mention. Edited by Logan - January 11 2024 at 05:39 |

^ I'm sorry to hear that. If you can think of any, nice to hear about them even if you choose not to be entered in the poll. I like your music, by the way.

Thank you, Logan, for putting the poll together and the playlist (also for changing my Edenya choice, not something I usually do, once I make my submissions).

^ Thank you very much, Nickie. It's been a real pleasure and I very much appreciate your write-ups on selections. And I hope you find the time to do one ere long.
------------------------------------------------ ^^ And thank you, Tennyson. Lovely short track which has now been added to the playlists. No pressure on the listening and voting, by the way, happy to have you on board as a contributor. That's a popular album in these parts that I still have yet to listen to, so I was very happy to get that taster. ------------------------------------------------ General note: I have been thinking about separating the numbers ones and number twos (sorry if that sounds confusing; not talking liquids and solids) in the poll for those who have multiple nominations (the two choices) making voting for three of the ones, and then maybe having the twos as bonuses. Or maybe two of the ones and one of the twos. :) Sorry, I know it's nice to have that set out from the go, but I do like to improvise a bit. I think three ones and one two, which sounds a bit like learning to dance. Thanks to everyone who has participated. |

Here are the final two up, that I've not given my two cents on yet:
Greg: Squid: “The Blades” Hybrid of post punk and post rock, kind of almost-monotone vocal, but not really, just sort of snarly. Definitely gets more punky about 2 mins in, as far as the vocals. The music is not really punky, though, it’s more slip-sliding about, more like post rock. Closes in a spoken part that fades into a whisper. Frets N Worries: The
Chronicles of Father Robin “The Tale of Father Robin” I like this genre, prog folk mixed in with
classic prog elements. This is an
introduction to a concept release, which I’ve heard here and about, in pieces. It has a nice medieval feel to it, and does
it’s job of making one want to hear more.

^ Thanks. Squid is kind of unpleasant, but I like it. I could say much the same of Squid Game (although I like Squid Game more still).
By the way, for those with more than two entries, if a number one and number two (seriously, get you minds out of the gutter!) has not been selected by early Monday PST, then I will just go with your first two tracks. |

I could do some listening (great stuff all around) but there's currently so much to do that I can't comment. May comment later on the things I vote for.
Nominations: (1) Aksak Maboul (2) Radian Personally I can't rank my three, but I thought the Deerhoof track may annoy some (though not me), and I put Radian behind Aksak Maboul just because I had Radian already in an earlier interactive poll. From superficial listening I'm sure that the Pixie Ninja track is for me, but many others are still in the mix, some not having had the deserved attention.
