Very nice, I enjoyed that piece very much. Sounds like quite the classic, and not classic 2022. I have been checking out some of Andrea Laszlo De Simone's other music on bandcamp, and it is eclectic. Wonderful, thanks. |

Top 5, not in any particular order, and some honourable mentions.
ALL HANDS_MAKE
LIGHT- "The Sons and
Daughters of Poor Eternal"
Electronica, very slow build on keyboards, with a shimmering drone-y
background, makes me think of a preternatural dawn. Soft female choral vocals and far off drums
come in well into the piece. A dawn
march of the Fae perhaps. Katie Kim - "Gentle Little Bird" Female vocalist in a style that I think of as
“lazy,” which is not a bad thing (think Cowboy Junkies). Slide-y strings join in a swell with the
underpinnings of drums and bass, an altogether melancholic piece that concludes
with some angelic vocals and cello. Low “Always Trying To Work It Out” Languid music, sort of alt pop. It progresses slowly with a feeling of
inertia. Washy guitars and blended male
and female vocals. Love this kind of
stuff. Kristin Hayter
(Lingua Ignota) - Ein Traum
Stately and elegant, piano and multi-layered vocals. A feeling of tragedy, or perhaps a dirge
here. Many voices join in, as a sound like bagpipes rises in the background, so
perhaps it is a funereal piece. I have
to mention I love the artwork, too. Noveller “Rubicon”
Hypnotic ambient music here, repetitive tubular bells type sounds and
some soaring guitar over sustained bass. Honourable Mentions Due
to Familiarity: La théorie des
cordes - "ALP La colosse
d'Anatolie" I have listened to this
quite a bit (the whole release), and find the music pretty compelling. It’s improvisational in nature, blending
jazz, RIO and electronic into a mesmerizing mélange. Birth - "Cosmic Tears” This was one of my favourite releases of last
year, bravo for bringing it here! Sarah Lipstate “Twin Peaks Theme Cover” Putting these both here, because I know the
music, although not heard this artist. I
will be checking out her Noveller release more.
Beautifully done, loved those Twin Peaks soundtracks. So atmospherically perfect for the show. Love that in the video the Red Room is
recreated for the theme cover. Laura’s
theme is perfectly ominus and transcendent. Edited by Snicolette - July 06 2023 at 21:29 |

Yes, many good listens, so far. I will comment on some a bit later, but I also took some time to listen to whole albums (thanks for those bandcamp links; makes things a lot easier and incites to explore more than just the proposed track!). But first an additional suggestion, and something a bit different. Five or six months ago this track was played regularly on my preferred - and very eclectic - radio station and I thought: "How is it possible that I never heard this before?" Because, to me, this undoubtedly had been a big hit in the 70s... Well, it was released just six months ago, and very much a product of its time when you listen to the lyrics. The last few lines translate (I think) as: There's a cold wind blowing over our days And behind the doors Cupboards full of dreams Wait for the return Of our life. Andrea Laslo de Simone - I nostri giorni: Of course, I explored a bit what he had done before and found his bandcamp page. One full album, but this one is quite beautiful too, if you like 70s tinged pop with a modern take interspersed with some field and archive recordings: Uomo Donna. Some more "standard" pop songs, others almost proggy pieces of music... Edited by suitkees - July 06 2023 at 14:43 |

I realised that I could easily vote for almost all of these, but then if I vote for almost all of them, it kind of makes the voting feel a little pointless and diminishes my votes as meaningful. It's bit like giving that "thanks" button a click for posts. If you thank every post then the thanks seems much less heartfelt, sincere and meaningful.
I opted for five. In doing so I am only going to consider one per submitter, and while there are three albums that music is off here that I had heard, if it sounds fresh again to me (I was so into back midi some time back, maybe too much) and made me appreciate it all the more, then I will give it a vote. That happened with Mila's Monika Roscher Bigband - Starlight Nightcrash. And I knew on first listen that all of these would get a vote, and on my second and now my quick third refresher (just takes a little of the song to remind me). So here are my five choices (all ended up being in the first nine so maybe getting in early did affect my decisions): - Jeremias Keller - Silicium - Maud the moth + trajedesaliva - Perla - La théorie des cordes - ALP La colosse d'Anatolie: - Teke::Teke - Hoppe - Monika Roscher Bigband: Starlight Nightcrash There are four spots still open, and if any of those fill out, then I may give one or more of those a vote too. If you decide to vote, feel free to vote how you like. I do hope hope take some time to listen (maybe even just one per submitter, thread is not long to see that, takes a few minutes) and comment even a bit. Being Interactive for the classic series isn't just about people submitting tracks to be included (and people voting), it's about listening to other people's choices, hopefully commenting and having some active group discussion/ conversation/ chat with people about the music. An issue I sometimes find in topics at PA is that there is so little obvious interaction between people who post that it feels like the individual posts act like islands even if no man is an island entire of itself, no, no woman neither though by your smiling you seem to say so. Oh, I'm mixing up my Donne and Shakespeare. Seems I have of late lost all my mirth.... Once again, thank you for the wonderful selections, the conversation, including potential critiques, and the bonhomie. It does take hours hosting these as I have, but it was worth it even if I worry that it has been dissatisfying to some. Sorry if I seemed to take your comments a bit hard, Mila. I was already feeling very awkward about posting a fourth track. Of course with all the time put into these I want it to be an enjoyable and positive experience for all. I figured one need not listen to all by person if the desire, or listen to full tracks.... And I would be fine with someone saying that they will only comment on one or two selections per individual. I had wanted to see the poll filled out and I would have appreciated three or four from others here. You only shared the two, but I would hardly have minded more. Maybe if you discount all of mine, you might find the time to comment on the others. No time limit, so it can be past summer if summer is too busy for people. I think Lorenzo may have summed up the potential issue best on including lots of tracks from the Heaven-Sent and Hell-Bent poll, and I have meant to take that to heart (especially as it came from the series starter who had done an earlier duos poll, and has been most keen on the Interactive Polls survival).
In that poll I asked people not to nominate unless they plan to vote (that directive failed, but I figured it might limit participation except for the most keen), but I figured in this one following George's model that people would feel freer to listen or not to listen and so I felt more flexible in a way. ^ It really does, and rather Bond. If Sarah Liptaste ever needs a drummer, she could hire Mike Porntoy. Anyway, Sarah Lipstate is as terrific a guitarist as Liptaste is....

I had a typo in Sarah's last name. Should be Lipstate, not Liptaste.
Here's some additional info on the video from an article here.

^^ Mila, I prefer to take most everything here personally, I tend to prefer that to taking comments as impersonal. I liked that you addressed me personally, but I know you did not just mean this poll and I know what you mean. I don't check this site every day, but I have ad-free youtube and bookmark the playlist. Listening is pretty easy, at least for me, especially as there is no time limit and I often multitask, but commenting is harder. If you have time, I hope you do a shorter contemporary poll -- say one nomination per person, maybe eight people, maybe 5 five minute max tracks, or whatever. No hard feelings on my part, but I do wish I had done things differently. They can be time-consuming to put together and update, which is why much as I enjoy the music, I sometimes think I am too lacking in time to take them on. In summer I often am very, very busy with work. That newest Interactive Poll I linked to before is easier to put together. Room for lots of different styles.
@ George: I loved listening to the Noveller Rubicon as well as the Sarah Liptaste covers. Terrific what she does with that guitar and guitar effects. And, yes, seeing the red Waiting Room is a very nice touch. In the second video I suspect that she is in the White Lodge. We just need a white Angel too. Edited by Logan - July 05 2023 at 19:45 |

@Greg
Contemporary sound is what I'm into, so I feel all the more the need to comment. Now we are at about two hours listening time and I realized that I won't make it. The same happened with one of George's polls. It's summer time and I can't check the forum every day. I believe it's the same for others, too. So do not take my comment personally please. |

I had discovered Noveller at the beginning of this year after randomly reading an article about female guitarists. Noveller is Sarah Lipstate. Besides her solo work as Noveller, she is the guitarist for Iggy Pop's current backing band. She records ambient soundscapes. From her 2015 album Fantastic Planet, I had posted the track Into the Dunes in Greg's one YouTube video thread. So, here's another track from this fantastic album.
Noveller - Rubicon (2015) Bandcamp link to album And as a bonus for Greg as I know he is a Twin Peaks fan, Sarah Lipstate is a big fan as well and released in 2021 a couple of covers with videos of the Twin Peaks main theme and Laura Palmer's Theme. Edited by mathman0806 - July 06 2023 at 02:35 |

I find this to be a positive experience. Had been listening a but at a rime without comment and have enjoyed this.
While I have no data to support this, I feel that overall participation on PA has been down this past week. Mostly concentrated bursts from a few forum regulars. That's my impression. I had kept a slow place with this one so there would be some room for new voices. But I certainly wouldn't want to see these remaining slots go without tracks so I will have another suggestion in my next post. |

^ I've found it easy to keep up and listen to everything here. I almost always listen as these things go along even when I don't comment. Been plenty of time I would think, but if others don't want to, I'm fine with that. I hoped to make this a positive experience as host, but yeah, I guess it doesn't work for others. My bad. I hugely enjoyed George's polls, but I think he went about it better than I did. And maybe people are burnt out again, so simplest would be best next.
I would have just let this one rest in peace had Lorenzo not responded. . Maybe it's selfish that it's almost enough for me that I discovered great music thanks to this poll, and it's fine for me to share music whether people want to listen or not in something like this where it is not a requirement (I had thought about writing a message where people might want to ignore more than one of mine). No one needs to listen to or vote for anything. I only feel bad for the effort that people put into thinking and responding. This will be my last, at least as host, realised it doesn't suit me. By the way, I know I posted more tracks than others, and If people listen and vote, please just ignore my choices (All Hands Make Light, Katie Kim, Uboa, and Kristin Hayter). Heart of the Matter made another modern Interactive Poll after this, and I would rather people focus on that if they can -- I don't think he's been a regular and I like the idea of encouraging and accommodating new blood. 2023 Epics Interactive Poll Swans' The Beggar Lover (Three) is a great track. ^ Greg, the increasing amount of music to be heard is reaching its limits imo. As nice as it may be to have a beautiful music collection, the likelyhood that people will listen to it decreases. Besides musical diversity increases with the number of participants imo, rather than with the number of songs alone.

^ Thank you, Lorenzo, I have added that to the playlist and to the poll. While I would be pleased if people continue to nominate more music, the poll (multiple choice) is open. Feel free to vote for as many as you like.
I'll add another track, which is a recent discovery of mine from what became a favourite artist. This is a song from the December 24, 2003 release of the Pentiment OST (a video game soundtrack). It says Kristin Hayter in the credits, and that is Lingua Ignota's real name. It also was released as a Lingua Ignota song the day before. While my comments merely have expressed my enjoyment rather than being descriptive of the music, there are three recent ones that have gone totally without comment by me and I am listening for the first time (will edit this post as I listen to more tracks).
The first is Teeth of the Sea - "VISITOR". I am loving this. First impressions are that I love this kind of electronic music with synthwave like 80s qualities -- reminds me a bit of some Com Truise (like Data Kiss) for its retro qualities, but this turns out to be way more eclectic. Amazing combination of electronics and rock with some jazzy qualities. Wow, this is big, this is epic. Now... after a quick lunch. Thomas Ankersmit - "Perceptual Geography". This on the other hand, while also on the electronics side and of similar length, is not big like that, but a much more minimalistic piece. This youtube comment for the video says it, umm, well not says it all, but it says "IT":
And now: Sylvie Courvoisier Trio - "Imprint Double" off D'Agala. This is sophisticated avant-garde jazz meets modern classical. Superb. This is the kind of music I sometimes would like to play loud in the car to offset or counterpoint the kinds of music I commonly hear playing really loud in cars (often Mustangs). I don't because I don't wish to disturb others. Sometimes I wish I drove a tank.... "Think that's a bass boom? Check out my boom!" ;) Now going backwards sort of: black midi - "Welcome to Hell". This already was a favourite of mine from the year. It is such a great song, and while I often don't pay attention to lyrics, this is one where I would. Voivod - "Planet Eaters". This is great, I really like the hardcore punk qualities (rather Motorhead). I have liked other Voivod, but this is my fave from them. Birth - "Cosmic Tears". This is a hugely enjoyable track with retro psych/space qualities and classic prog nods while also sounding modern. Uboa - "The Flesh of the World". A rather easy-listening and catchy track from Uboa with minimal noise,. Of course I like it since I mentioned it. Edited by Logan - July 01 2023 at 18:23 |
